Thank you...
for joining us last month!

Guest artist and QAA member, watercolorist Kara Bigda, delighted us with a demonstration of her watercolor technique as well as discussing the merits of an assortment of watercolor papers, paints, and color palettes.  She brought samples of her beautiful work, describing how she first draws a subject and then transfers the image onto paper.  Kara described the brushes and various materials she uses to achieve different results, as well as demonstrating painting on aqua board.  Thank you, Kara for a wonderful presentation!

You won't want to miss our next meeting on April 20th!
April Guest Presenter: Molly Hatch
Working from her basement studio, Molly began her career as a studio potter in 2008.  Her formal education in ceramics, printmaking, and drawing resulted in the development of her signature style.  Creating contemporary ceramics inspired by art history, Molly’s career as a studio potter quickly garnered a loyal following.  In 2010, Molly launched her first tableware collection with great success.
Molly now works from her studio in Northampton, Massachusetts.  Her designs have expanded beyond tableware to include a wide range of lifestyle products, from stationary to quilting fabrics and more.  With two forthcoming books, (with Chronicle and Quartro Publishers and in collaboration with her agency Moxie & Company), Molly is actively building her collection of home goods to bring her modern, yet traditional designs to the contemporary home.

Mark your calendars!

Committee Reports were as follows:
Hospitality: Anne Cohen thanked those who provided refreshments for the March meeting.  She made a sign-up sheet available for members who would like to contribute refreshments for the April meeting.
Publicity: No report
Plein Air: Bev Phaneuf passed around a sign-up sheet for those members interested in participating in a QAA Plein Air painting group, once warmer weather arrives!  She requested that we include e-mail addresses in order to form an e-mail exchange.  This will enable members to keep in touch regarding various places and times to meet, suggestions for “new” locations, parking accommodations, availability of restrooms, etc.  Bev reminded members that State Parks are wonderful places for Plein Air painting.  She said a season membership is usually only $5.00 and that includes all State Parks.
Social Media: No report
QAA Website: Kara Bigda and Donna Cote announced that the association website is near completion and is now “live” for those wishing to see the website in progress.
Kara reported that she, Donna Cote, Denise Fontaine-Pincince and Jen Turner had a productive meeting in February to discuss final details for the website.
Donna Cote said she will be e-mailing a Word Document, (which in fact has now been sent), to all QAA members.  The document contains tips and instructions for photographing individual artwork for the QAA Website.  If you have not received your e-mail yet, please let us know.

Baystate has precise guidelines for hanging art work.  Frames must be made of wood and of a certain width, (as yet undetermined), and all wires must be removed, as pieces will be bolted to the wall.
Artists may have some say as to where their work will be placed, but since Baystate does the actual hanging, they will have the final word.
Lori St. Pierre noted that Baystate is amenable to members removing their work in the event of a sale, in view of the fact that patrons might wish to purchase a piece of artwork for Christmas giving.
December Exhibit - Storrs Library: Details TBD

Alan Izatt will be having a solo show at the South Hadley Library during the month of May.
