Bishop's Stortford Camera Club Newsletter

26th February 2017
Hi <<First Name>>

Welcome to this week's Newsletter.

Beginners PDI Round 4 Recount

Apologies to the members of the beginners section. As I suspected at the time the final season results of the competition were incorrect as announced on the evening. The correct results for the season are as follows:
1 Andy Holloway 136
2 Stephen Bishop 132
3 Keith Potter 131
4 Andy Morris 129
5 Lizzie Honeywood 126
6 Paul Weaver 118

So, congratulations to Andy and Stephen for a great season - and apologies to Andy, Stephen and Keith for misleading you on Tuesday!

Exhibition Hand-In

Hand-in for the Exhibition takes place this Tuesday. Please bring your prints with you. You can hand in PDI entries either on a USB stick on Tuesday or email them to

If you have prints in the St Ives Interclub competition and/or the EAF Interclub Print Competition and you wish to enter one or more of these prints into the Exhibition please write the name of the Image and Your name on a piece of paper and hand that in at the Exhibition hand in.

This seems a good time to give a quick recap of the hand in rules for the Exhibition - this is just a summary, a full copy of the rules are available on the web site here - :

There are three main sections:

  • PDI
  • Monochrome Print
  • Colour Print

You may enter up to 6 images into each section - so a maximum entry of 18 images per person. For all these images you must decide whether the image is:

  • A = Open
  • B = Portrait
  • C = Record
  • D = Natural History / Nature (this category does not apply in the Monochrome Print section - you may enter a Natural History / Nature Monochrome image in the Colour Print D category)
Your image label should indicate which category - A, B, C or D, your image should be considered under.

There is also an award in each section for Best 3 images from same Author, so you need to indicate which 3 images are your best (irrespective of which category the images fall in - so you can have a mixture of an Open image, a Portrait image and a Nature image for example).

Information on prints should be added to the rear of the print as usual. Prints should be handed in on the 28th February 2017.

Information for PDIs should be included in the name of the image, eg "Title Of Image (Author Name) Category Best1.jpg" so
eg "Super Image (Mark Seton) Nature Best3.jpg"
if not a "best" image
eg "Moderately great image (Mark Seton) Portrait.jpg"

PDIs can be handed in via USB on the 28th February or emailed to any time until midnight on 28th February. Sizing is as per our standard rules - landscape images longest side maximum 1400px. Portrait and Square aspects longest side maximum 1050px

Clear as mud? Just ask anyone on the committee for help and there is always plenty of help available on the hand in night - 28th February 2017.

EAF Annual Exhibition

Not to be confused with the above EAF Club Championship, individual entries are being sort for the EAF Annual Exhibition. Whilst entries are submitted via the Club, the entries are personal to you.

"Each individual member of the affiliated Societies and Clubs to the East Anglian Federation is entitled to enter a maximum of 3 monochrome prints, 3 colour prints and 4 Projected Images for consideration for the above exhibition."

The entry cost per image is £0.60. Full rules are available on the EAF web site here. Please bear in mind that if you are entering Prints you must provide a PDI version of the image as well.

If you wish to enter please get your entries to Mark and/or Janet no later than the 28th February 2017

Summer Program

We've started thinking about this year's summer program, but we'd really like your views. Where would you like to go, what would you like to photograph? As per last year we intend to put up a voting list on both Facebook and the Club Noticeboard. Suggestions to Mark Seton would be gratefully received.

Falconry - June 3rd or 4th

This could be an event on the Summer Program if we have enough interest.

Click here to read full details - please let me know if you are interested in this. If we have sufficient interest we will look into booking - please respond by Wednesday so I can enquire further.

Frank's Interesting Links

This week I have found a very good site but have only checked out the Lightroom section (there are sections for Photoshop, Lightroom and Elements.
I have watched the series on printing from Lightroom and although I have been able to print, I’ve learned an awful lot.
Click and be printing all your own images.
There are many other topics on his site which I’ll be investigating.

This month's edition of e-news is out now...with an introduction from The Donald no less!

That's it for now, until next week
