Holy Conversations:  The dates are set! And the Discernment Committee is signing up participants for three very important "Holy Conversations" - Breakfast on Saturday, August 24 at 8:00 a.m.; lunch on Sunday August 25 after the 10:30 service.; and Dinner on Wednesday, August 28 at 6:00 p.m. The meals will be catered so come out and enjoy some "love, peace, and far-out fellowship as we envision God's Dream for Grace!". The Discernment Committee wanted to choose a fun theme, so whether you love it or have some other response, every voice is needed, every opinion is worthy, and every member of Grace Church is a holy, beloved and vital part of this journey to find a new rector.  Sign up on the bulletin board for one of these Holy Conversations, or reply to this email, and ask Valerie to put your name on the list. And to get into the fun spirit of it all, it's optional to come wearing love beads, tie-dye t-shirts, bell-bottoms, anything 60's, as we have fun discussing how we'll be transitioning into 2020!

Friday Night Lights: Bring a candle, bring a lawn chair, and let your light shine! On Friday evenings about 30-45 minutes before sunset, you are invited to join the gathering on the front lawn of Grace Church. They aren't protesting or carrying signs. They are the sign - a small, visible sign of Christ in a troubled world. And Friday nights, you can join them in taking a couple of hours to, as Jesus taught, let your light shine. Please join in.

Sunday School Blast Off! This Sunday, August 18 at 9 a.m. Greetings, Grace families! A new Sunday school year is coming soon and it all starts with a "Sunday School Blast Off" this Sunday. The offering will be based on the The Way of Love. Here is a quote from The Way of Love materials: "As the Episcopal branch of the Jesus Movement, we follow the Way of Jesus. His way is the Way of Love, and that love has the power to change lives and change the world." Click here to see Presiding Bishop Michael B. Curry's invitation to practice The Way of Love.

Education for Ministry (EfM) Is Here: Education for Ministry is a four-year course in Christianity. It is based on an adult learning model and is student driven. The four years are 1) Old Testament, 2) New Testament, 3) Church History and 4) Theology, liturgics, etc. The core of the program is the small group and the relationships you build with one another while learning about God, Jesus, theology and your own spirituality. We need six students to make a group. Your guides during this journey are Nancy Walters and Christopher Jaquette. If you are interested or have questions, you may contact Christopher, Nancy, Fr. Bob or Fr. Gary, as well as other parishioners who have participated. The cost is $375 per year and Fr. Gary is offering a $200 scholarship to each student. Informational packets are available in the foyer.

Bell Ringers Needed: Please let Valerie know if you are willing and able to participate in the bell choir at Grace. Or let her know if you know someone who is not a member at Grace who might be interested in playing handbells. Two recent retirees from the choir were ringers but had no handbell choir at their church, so they came to Grace!

Recycle Your Prescription Bottles: Many times, the pills people receive in developing countries are wrapped in paper scraps. They have no protection from moisture or the elements. And they certainly are not safely out of the reach of small children. We can help by donating our used prescription and over-the-counter pill bottles (with or without childproof caps). Just remove the labels; wash, rinse and dry; replace caps; and place the bottles in a zip lock bag. A box has been put in the foyer for your donations.
Pig Pickin' is Coming! Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 21. Our annual Pig Pickin' Barbeque Dinner will be in the church parking lot at 5:30 p.m. with music and some really fine food. The meal begins at 6:15 p.m. Tickets will be available from Men of the Church at the door.

Adult Formation This Sunday: On Sunday, (around 9:20-25 AM) Fr. Gary will lead and guide informal discussions on current events in the world and the Church’s part in that, The Episcopal Church, answer theological and liturgical questions or anything else that just pops up. So come have some breakfast and then join in the conversation. Bring anything you want to discuss. Fr. Gary will be at a table in the parish hall.

You Are Cordially Invited to Breakfast EVERY Sunday: from 8:45 until 10:00 a.m. in the parish hall.
Sample Menu:
  Sausage, Biscuits, Scrambled Eggs
  French Toast, Muffins
  Fruit, Yogurt, Cereal
  Coffee, Hot Tea, Water, Orange Juice, Apple Juice, Milk

Coffee in the Courtyard: Sunday, at 11:40 a.m. come for coffee and conversation in the courtyard following the 10:30 service. In order to make this as welcoming as possible, we would  love to have different families "host" the coffee each Sunday. If this is a ministry you would be interested in, please sign up on the kiosk in the foyer.  Let's turn our coffee hour into a real chance to socialize and connect with one another following our shared worship. Please see Sally Withers for details.

Prayer RequestsThere is a prayer request form on the table as you enter the church. If there is a person who is not on the regular prayer list that you would like to be included in the intercessory prayers for this Sunday, please enter the information on the form. If you would like that person to be added to the regular list, please note that on the form or call the office.

Thank you! We appreciate all who serve in our ministries, and all who participate and attend Grace. If there is a ministry you would like to join or explore further, come to the Ministry Fair on September 1st, and be sure to contact the Ministry Leader. They would love to hear from you. Their name and contact information can be found on page 5 of the August Grace TEAM. Enjoy your week!

Many Blessings,

Valerie Heavens
