Principal's Message

November 2, 2016

Dear Roy & Dora Whitman Academy Community,

Happy Fall! I had almost forgotten what it was like to have cooler weather, rain, and wind.  We will be having the students come in under shelter if they are waiting outside before school, but please keep them dressed warmly so they don’t get chilled and weaken their immune systems; sore throats and fevers are still in circulation.

Please note the new board policy concerning admissions (see the board bulletin). We are trying to get into sync with the system here in Jordan for initial entry age into school. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

This year our teaching staff has been learning how to integrate a Christian world view and integrate biblical principles into the regular curriculum.  Part of the strategies are to have students stop and analyze what they are reading to compare it to the biblical world view or to examine how different scientific principles or historical events reveal the nature of God or the nature of man.  This process has generated a lot of rich discussion at different levels. Our goal is to have students able to see the truth and beauty of God’s word and way and know what the Bible says about these topics in order for the students to not just simply absorb the values subtly projected everything they hear and read.  We want them to be critical thinkers.

Please pray for safety for the 8th graders as they are experiencing the wonders of God’s creation on the coral reef in Aqaba today and tomorrow.

Have a wonderful week.

Blessings,

Julia J. Nuqul M. Ed. Ed. D.

New Baby Geiger! Congratulations!!!

David Geiger is one of our high school social studies teachers. He and his wife Marleen just had a baby early this week. They will need meals prepared for their family for several weeks, starting on November 13th. This is a great way to support and bless one of our Whitman families. To sign up, go to https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/w76y2w

Meals made for a Saturday or Monday can be delivered to the school before 3pm. Meals on other days can be delivered to the Geiger home near 7th circle. A pin and phone number will be available on the website in the coming days.

Colder Days Are Here!

During the colder months, students are permitted to wear Whitman-branded shorts or any colored sweat pant on PE days. Sweatpants are not to be worn on non-PE days.

Whitman-branded sweatpants will be available to order for the 2017-2018 school year.

School Board Bulletin

In order to address the discrepancy between the US and Jordanian system regarding when children can enter 1st grade, Roy & Dora Whitman Academy’s board unanimously approved a child admission policy change at its October 18th board meeting. The policy change is as follows: All students who reach six years old before the end of the calendar year will begin school together (for example, students born in the year 2011 will enter school together for the 2017-2018 school year). This policy will take effect with the start of the 2017-2018 school year.

Extra-Curricular Opportunity

Thank you to the parents who filled out the Elementary Activities Survey; several parents expressed interest in an exercise program for their younger students. The PAC will be offering the BOKS (Build Your Kid’s Success) Exercise Program free of charge to the entire elementary student body before school once a week for four weeks. It will be run by Bob & Carrie Cole with the help of other parent volunteers. Here are the details:

DAY: Wednesdays

TIME: 7-7:40am

DATE: November 16th-December 7th

WHERE: Whitman Academy Playground

Research shows that students who exercise before school do better academically and make better behavior choices in school. To understand more about BOKs, a successful non-profit initiative of Reebok U.S.A., please visit www.bokskids.org/about-boks. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Carrie Cole at: milli34@gmail.com.
