Principal's Message

January 26, 2017

Dear Roy & Dora Whitman Academy,

Happy day to you all.  We have a big weekend coming up with the elementary science fair this Saturday and the sendoff for Dick and Robin Hart.  The elementary students have been working hard on their science projects. I was a test subject for a couple of them, one investigating the relationship between age and memory and another on … I don’t remember J.  I encourage all parents to stop by Saturday afternoon to enjoy the students’ learning and see their displays.

We will also have a cake and punch farewell party for Dick and Robin Hart starting at 2:00 pm in the front courtyard. If the weather conditions are poor, we will set up base in the staff kitchen.  Please come and say goodbye to these two amazing, faithful, generous people who have made Whitman their heart home and ministry focus over the last 21 years.

Thanks to all the parents who volunteered as chaperones for the service projects last Saturday.  It is encouraging to see the students going out into the community to make a difference and shine their lights. I have heard glowing comments from the different center directors about how our students behave and the contributions they have been able to make.

This last week, we had 5 staff members and over 10 students out sick. We appreciate it when parents keep their sick children home.  It helps the child to recuperate faster and reduces the risk of infecting others. Right now we have a respiratory bug that has required antibiotics in some cases and an intestinal infection going around. In this cold and flu season, let’s be cautious about our health habits. Wash not only hands but also fruits and vegetables thoroughly; the intestinal infection that is going around comes from food and water contaminated with feces.  Keep coughs under cover. Do not hesitate to keep students home if they have coughs, fevers or stomach problems.

“Salametkoom!”
