Principal's Message

March 1, 2017

Dear Roy & Dora Whitman Academy Community,

Tomorrow is the first round of new student application reviews.  Please make sure you have the registration fee paid to hold the place for your child for next year. Thank God, R&DWA is still quite a popular choice in the country.

This morning, I participated in a mock job fair organized by Mr. Beasley for the twelfth grade class.  The students had to present themselves at an interview to different company reps.  It was quite impressive to hear the students relate the experiences they had in leadership, food service, organization, technical and artistic endeavors, and much more through their experiences here at R&DWA.  Because we have limited resources, the students have had to do the work themselves if they wanted sports teams, fund-raising, parties, and school events. They have had to be responsible and take initiative, all of which look good to potential employers.  I know this will be a positive force in their lives as they step into their futures.

We’ve been having lots of fun with Book Week - I have three young ladies waiting in my office to read to me right now, and more are lined up. Come by at recess and enjoy the reading tent set up on the basketball court.  The librarian has been trying to keep up with the reading contest - she did not anticipate the students’ enthusiasm and only made flags to show class progress of reading up to 4,000 minutes. One class put in 3,200 minutes of reading in the first 2 days!

Don’t miss the play this weekend. By the looks of the props and the rehearsals, it’s going to be AMAZING!
