Dear Friends,

It's been an extremely busy time both at home and on the road. We've recorded our first two winners of the season with Forecast and Capital Force with hopefully many more to come. Race reports and replays to enjoy below.

We have shares available in some extremely exciting prospects including just one share left in our Califet yearling 'Herbie' - he's the spit of Champion Court and from the same stud. There's also the exciting Black Sam Bellamy gelding Big Nasty, plus Mozzaro whose relatives are already making waves on the track.

As ever, give us a call if you'd like to attend a sale, discuss any aspect of ownership, or arrange a visit to view any of the horses or yearlings for sale.

A promising outlook for Forecast. Picture: Nigel Kirby Photography
Race Report - Uttoxeter 4th May

Forecast, with Richard Johnson on board, recorded our first win of the season, and also got the champion jockey off the mark for this season too.

The duo made a measured start stalking the field from the back before making smooth headway round the outside to two hurdles out. When asked he gamely took the lead at the last and pushed on to win by six lengths.

We're delighted for owners the E, G and B Partnership and we're pretty sure this won't be their last trip to the winners enclosure with this exciting horse.

A force to be reckoned with: Capital Force at Ludlow. Pictures: Official Photographers

Race Report - Ludlow, 12th May

Capital Force partnered by Gavin Sheehan gave connections plenty to cheer about with a 5-length victory at Ludlow on 12th May. Tracking the leaders until 5 out, the partnership chased down the leaders taking the lead at the last and finishing strongly.

Brought over to us from another yard, Capital Force is proving a shrewd capital investment having already exceeded his purchase price in prize money. We're absolutely delighted for his owner John Abernethy.

Shares now available

Big Nasty
3yo bay gelding by Black Sam Bellamy

ex Hello My Lovely by Presenting

10 shares available at £6000 each

Big Nasty is a 6 year old by Black Sam Bellamy and a big imposing chasing type. He has had two runs in bumpers and one hurdle run and has been ridden by three top jockeys - Richard Johnson, Aidan Coleman and Leighton Aspell, who all liked him a lot. He ran two solid races in his bumpers finishing 3rd and 4th and then was only beaten 2 1/2 lengths by a nice horse of Warren Greatrex's on his hurdling debut when a novicey mistake at the third last probably got him beaten.

All three jockeys who have ridden him have got off and have said he is going to be a very promising staying chaser for the future.  I've been very pleased with all that he has shown so far because I'm sure we won't see the best of him until he goes chasing next season.

He is a horse that I am very excited about as I hope he is one that will step up and can be aimed at big meetings on Saturdays.

Witness Protection
6yo bay gelding by Witness box

Witness Protection won a Point to Point in Ireland on 31st
March in very good style

On his previous run he was very unlucky when his reins broke and he had to be pulled up in the home straight. He would have otherwise finished first or second but he made up for this misfortune by winning next time out.

Witness Protection is an impressive six year old out of Queen’s Exit and is by Witness Box (Exit To Nowhere). He already has experience of jumping in Point to Point races so he’ll go straight hurdling, running through the second half of the summer season and into the first half of the winter season before progressing to chasing next year.

Witness Protection cost £21,000. There are 20 shares available and the maximum cost to include purchase and costs until 31st October 2019 will be £2,100 per share. This can be paid upfront or £420 a month (June to October). This is broken down as £1,050 for the purchase of a 5% share in Witness Protection, £75 to cover purchase costs including vetting and transport and £975 to cover all training and racing costs and a contingency fund.

After 31st October a financial statement will be distributed to the syndicate showing how all subscriptions have been spent and any unspent funds & prize money won will be divided.

'Herbie' - Brown gelding - Califet ex Clondalee

Purchase Price for 10% share = £2745 + VAT (£549) = Total £3294 to include all costs up to June 30th 2019. Contribution for keep: £75 per month per 10% share from July 2019 onwards

Califet is a tremendously exciting stallion who has produced some outstanding horses from his days standing in France, including the likes of Clarcam, Blue Dragon and Carriacou who last month won the 1/2 million euro Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris at Auteuil under Davy Russell. Five years ago he was moved to Boardsmill Stud in Ireland (who consigned our fellow) and so his first Irish bred stock are now 4 years old and are just hitting the tracks. He has large numbers on the ground and is a stallion we're going to be hearing a lot more of, and we have most certainly purchased Herbie at the right time.

Even though Herbie is quite a late foal (May 20th) he is a big lad, stunning looking, very sensible and should grow to be a large chasing type. He is a half-brother to Kagney who is trained by Noel Meade and has won 2 of his 6 races being rated 127 in the process. He reminds Martin and Belinda very much of Champion Court and comes from the same stud as well. An exciting prospect.

'Basil'- Bay gelding - Sans Frontieres ex Killoughey Babe

Purchase Price for 10% share = £1745 + VAT (£349) = Total £2094 to include all costs up to June 30th 2019. Contribution for keep: £75 per month per 10% share from July 2019 onwards

Sans Frontieres is a young National Hunt stallion also going places. He is owned by the National Hunt arm of Coolmore and stands at The Beeches Stud in Ireland. His eldest progeny are now 5 and so have just completed their first 'proper' season racing and already he has sired some exciting winners, such as Mystic Dreamer who won a bumper at Cheltenham in April; the Simon Munir / Isaac Souede owned Lomachenko who was an impressive winner for trainer Nicky Henderson; and the very useful winners Treasure Dillon and Mister Eddman. He also has several point to point winners that have gone through the auction ring at Cheltenham in the past few months.

Basil was superb value when we bought him at the Tattersalls foal sale in Ireland because he was one of the first lots through on the Monday morning before most people were at the sale and Gerry Hogan and Paul looked at each other in disbelief at the price we got him for. He's now a well grown yearling with a very intelligent head and a lovely kind nature. His dam has produced Senor Lombardy, who cost €125,000 as a four year old just two years ago and has since gone on to achieve a rating of 137 with the trainer Keith Dalgeish and further great things are expected of him. If Senor Lombardy goes on to be a very good racehorse (as we think he will) and if Sans Frontieres becomes a National Hunt stallion force to be reckoned with (as we think he will) then we've got a lovely youngster on our hands.

4yo bay gelding by MOROZOV

ex Baraza by Kalanisi

£4,400 + VAT per 10th share and £240 per month for all training fees and keep

This horse caught our eye from the minute the sales catalogue was published as it is a dam line that a number of our owners know well, containing the very promising young novice chaser Indian Hawk with Nicky Henderson and the very exciting dual-winning 4yo bumper, Melekhov, with Philip Hobbs.

He is a notably good-looking horse, an excellent mover with a really athletic swagger about him. Gerry Hogan absolutely loved him, and we snapped him up for somewhat less than we expected to have to pay, probably because the sire is not particularly well known. By contrast Simon Munir and Isaac Souede paid £110k for Indian Hawk.

Morozov is by Sadler’s Wells and has already sired three encouraging young horses in Eduard, Opening Batsman and Marshal Zhukov. Our lad is the third foal out of Baraza, and her first two foals have already won multiple times: Kinari has won four times to date over fences while Fletcher has won twice over hurdles. We are confident that our gelding will maintain Baraza’s 100% strike rate with winners to runners

Good Luck Abi

As race-day rapidly approaches there's still time to support Abi Stock who is riding in the Macmillan Ride of their Lives Charity Race at York on 15th June in memory of her late father Chris.

Abi has (at time of writing) has very nearly raised £30k for this amazing cause - and every £231 raised will pay for a Macmillan nurse for a whole day.

And Finally...

Congratulations Freddie who scored his first Shetland Grand National victory at Heathfield Show recently in front of very proud parents. Fingers crossed for this weekend's races at The South of England Show

STOP PRESS! Win number two came at the South of England Show yesterday afternoon. The duo sat in 2nd place for much of the race before pouncing at the second last to lead on the final turn and take the laurels on the run in by 1/2 length.

Congratulations Freddie!
Warmest Regards
Martin, Belinda, Freddie, Harry and all the team at Condicote Stables
