Back on the Lash wins at Exeter under Conditional Jockey Patrick Cowley.

Come and see what's new at Condicote

Dear Friends,

It's been a really busy month at Condicote Stables, and with big improvements at the yard we've got so much news it's hard to know where to begin...

On the track we were very pleased to see Back On The Lash win at Exeter in October, made all the more satisfying as it was the first winning ride for us by new
Conditional Jockey Patrick Cowley.

We've been hard at work sprucing up the facilities for owners and visitors with new, improved owners' room and washroom facilities, more details below.

Martin has refurbished the schooling ground to be even better than ever, plus we have some very welcome new team members at the yard. On the subject of newcomers we have some fantastic new ownership opportunities in the form of Black Prince, plus again the chance to secure your share in the young stock to be purchased next week at the NH Foal Sale in Ireland.
The Martin Keighley Racing Club is the ideal Christmas present, so call us to secure your 2020 membership.

If it's been a while since you last came to see us, or if you have someone you would like to introduce, then please do come and visit - the welcome at Condicote is always a warm one.

As ever, give us a call if you'd like to attend a sale, discuss any aspect of ownership, or arrange a visit to view any of the horses or yearlings for sale.

Race Report - Exeter 10th October

Back On The Lash, with Conditional Jockey Patrick Cowley on board, produced a gritty display at Exeter on 10th November in the Join Racing TV Now Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle.

Although slightly hampered at the first, he settled well in his first time hood and, although he was one of the first off the bridle turning for home, he showed how tough he is to eventually win by a neck with a little bit in hand.

We're delighted for owners Mark Boothright, Grahame Lovett and Peter Deffains, who couldn't be there that day but we're sure celebrated in style.

New at the yard

As we mentioned above, Martin has updated the schooling ground, not only moving the jumps onto fresh ground, but also introducing some brand new schooling hurdles and fences.

Owners' facilities have benefitted from a complete re-paint, we've added a new noticeboard and we've new pictures on the way. We've reorganised the space to improve its' usefulness and the Owners Room is now available to hire for functions or events, so do keep it in mind for a unique business event or celebration.

As well as new Conditional Jockey Patrick Cowley, Anna McDonagh joins as a part time work rider. Anna's parents Wendy & Joe are both members of the Martin Keighley Racing Club and also run the Coach & Horses in Longborough where we have plenty of yard gatherings.

Lastly we've taken delivery of our smart new Horsebox livery, updated with the logo of our new sponsor
FBC Manby Bowdler.

Trainers are increasingly joining the RSA and we’re happy to be amongst them. As a result we’re participating in a special
“Discover Racehorse Ownership Weekend” at Ascot on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd November.

YOUNG STOCK COMING SOON

National Hunt Foal Sale November 2019

Last year, we bought three foals with Gerry Hogan at the Tattersalls National Hunt Foal Sale in Ireland. This is the premier sale for National Hunt foals and the list of stars that have emerged from this sale is endless and there is always plenty of value to be had. Two of the foals we bought last year were partnered out into ten shares making each share really affordable and I think it's fair to say that those who joined the partnerships have thoroughly enjoyed watching the youngsters develop throughout the past year, as well as watching the many video clips that are shared with them as the foals play together in their field.

We will be repeating the venture this year and, indeed, have already privately purchased one foal (a full brother to Spice Girl - shares available at just £1000) who is currently boarding up at Batsford Stud. By working with Gerry Hogan, we're going to purchase a second foal at the sales next week and will be partnering this one out as well. We're going to be further cementing our relationship with Batsford Stud and the idea is that the foals will spend the winter at Batsford where they will be under the professional expert care of the staff there, before moving down to the yard to continue their development in the Summer of their yearling days.

Watch this space to see which exciting youngster is the next to join our ranks. Taking a share in these youngsters is so rewarding and they can be visited at any point - including when they are boarding at Batsford which is just a few miles away from the yard - and when the time comes for them to reach the race track and when they enter the winners' enclosure we can guarantee that you'll be bursting with pride.

SHARES FOR SALE

Black Prince
5yo bay gelding by Falco

ex Thamara by Street Cry

A 20-owner syndicate.  Free lease so no capital cost whatsoever. All-inclusive cost per share:  £1,250 p.a. or £105 p.m. from 1st October 2019

There will not be many better bred nor more imposing horses in National Hunt racing than Black Prince.  He is a most striking individual with a lovely nature, and has always been a gentle giant. Believe it or not, the photo is him as a yearling.

On breeding he should have been a sprinter, out of a classic Sheikh Hamdan al-Maktoum dam line at Shadwell. His sire is Falco (top-class miler who won the French 2000 Guineas in 2008) while the dam is multiple-winning Thamara, by Street Cry who sired the famous Breeders’ Cup winner Zenyatta. Falco, however, has sired National Hunt winners, the best known of whom is Peace And Co who won the Triumph Hurdle at the 2015 Cheltenham Festival.

He was bought by Ron Huggins, who owned the Ascot Gold Cup winner Double Trigger. Anthony Honeyball trained him to race thirteen times, and in his last six runs he finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd x 2 and 4th. His debut juvenile hurdle run was excellent, with the Racing Post describing him as “a sure-fire winner in waiting”. Unfortunately he picked up an injury, came to us for some TLC and seems to have made a full recovery. The last horse we acquired from Anthony Honeyball was Solstice Star who has since won eight times for us and loves our carpet gallops. All crossed for the same result with Black Prince.

And Finally...

Freddie Keighley has been all over the country from Burghley to Badminton racing his shetland, Brewards Kerwen (known to his friends as Blackie) in aid of the Bob Champion Cancer Charity

In a race with absolutely no prisoners taken from the flag to the post, Freddie recently came third in the Shetland Pony Gold Cup at Plumpton
Racecourse wearing Andrew & Louise Jones' colours - who also
very generously sponsored him for the day.

Freddie is now heading to
Olympia this Christmas time for the world-famous Shetland Pony Grand National. Freddie has already raised in excess of £1700 for the charity.

You can donate to Freddie's fundraising page here
Warmest Regards
Martin, Belinda, Freddie, Harry and all the team at Condicote Stables
