Season's Meetings

Dear Friends,

What a year it's been - as we near the start of 2020 (!) it's  a good time to reflect on the ups and downs of the last 12 months -  with this in mind you'll find our annual review in pictures to enjoy below.

It's with much sadness that we say goodbye to Assistant Trainer Matt 'Foxy' Carter who is  leaving us to spend more time with his young family. A huge thank-you to Foxy and we wish him well.

With Foxy's sad departure it's 'in with the new' with the appointment of Hollie Watts. Hollie joins us from Andrew Balding's yard, and has also spent time in Australia working for Ciaron Maher, who trains over 450 horses.

Mick Deady, who has worked for us in the past, returned as a work rider in the autumn and has recently agreed to take on the position of Travelling Head Lad which we are thrilled about - therefore you will be seeing a lot of him out and about on the racecourse.  We very much look forward to benefitting in 2020 from Hollie, Assistant Head Girl Jasmin and Mick, leading the team.

In 2019 we welcomed a new sponsor, Legal Firm FBC Manby Bowdler, you may have already seen their branding at the yard and on race day attire.

With recent activity at the sales we'd like to draw your attention to Beneagles and Mozzaro, both of whom have a few shares remaining and would make the ideal four-legged Christmas present.

And last but not least we had an early Christmas present at Catterick on Tuesday where we had an excellent win from Reve and a great performance from Ben Buie to get in the prize money too. Report and replay to enjoy below.

Give us a call if you'd like to attend a sale, discuss any aspect of ownership, or arrange a visit to view any of the horses for sale.

Christmas comes early at Catterick

Race Report - Catterick, 17th December

Reve, with Sam Twiston-Davies on board, showed a fantastic attitude to take the Birdie's 2020 Wall & Desk Calendars Handicap Hurdle at Catterick on Tuesday.

Returning to a longer trip, the 5 year old  was always handy and took up the running two out. He stayed on gamely despite the best efforts of the McManus runner who finished second by 3/4 length.

An extremely encouraging performance and absolutely delighted owners Ollie & Irene Ryan who were there to cheer him on.

Ben gives owners a boost

All the patient owners in Ben Buie were delighted with his run at Catterick under a sympathetic ride from Sam Twiston-Davies. He is bound to come on a huge amount for this hurdling debut, and is a gorgeous future chasing prospect. He is still raw, very much a big baby and needs plenty of time. The run was clocked by lots of race watchers and Racing Post made him their “eye catcher” on the day.  He won’t be 40/1 next time!

Ownership Opportunities & New Horses

A 6 owner syndicate - just launched

Beneagles
7yo gelding by Milan ex Liss Rua

1/6th Share £2,340 + VAT to include all costs until January 31st 2020. £350 per month from 1st February

We were thrilled to purchase the fabulous looking Beneagles very recently and are delighted to launch our latest syndicate which is sure to provide the partners with lots of fun and success. Buy in now and you will be going racing in Q1 2020.

Beneagles was previously trained by Alan King, who worked with Martin at David Nicholson’s. Martin contacted Alan, plus Wayne Hutchinson who rode Beneagles, and they both highly recommended him stating that he is has a good attitude, is sound and well put together, and that he may have lost his way in a big yard and would probably benefit from a change of environment and that he will win more races.

Beneagles is just the type of horse that Martin has done so well with in recent seasons, eg Mr Mafia, Capital Force. He’s rated 121, has won two races, been placed 6 times and has picked up prize money in 12 of his (only) 16 race career .

Martin expects further success from Beneagles in long distance handicap hurdles, before embarking on his Novice ‘Chasing career. Further success surely beckons!

He’s very nicely bred and is a half brother to the fabulous Pym, winner of 5 races including an impressive win at Cheltenham in December.

We believe that he will make the perfect syndicate horse, so do get in touch soon as shares are sure to be snapped up quickly.

For more information about Beneagles, please contact Paul Davis on 07307 194998 (pauldavispdavis@yahoo.co.uk) or Martin Keighley on 07767 472547 to arrange a viewing at the yard.

Black Prince
5yo bay gelding by Falco

ex Thamara by Street Cry

A 20-owner syndicate.  Free lease so no capital cost whatsoever. All-inclusive cost per share:  £1,250 p.a. or £105 p.m. from 1st October 2019

There will not be many better bred nor more imposing horses in National Hunt racing than Black Prince.  He is a most striking individual with a lovely nature, and has always been a gentle giant. Believe it or not, the photo is him as a yearling.

On breeding he should have been a sprinter, out of a classic Sheikh Hamdan al-Maktoum dam line at Shadwell. His sire is Falco (top-class miler who won the French 2000 Guineas in 2008) while the dam is multiple-winning Thamara, by Street Cry who sired the famous Breeders’ Cup winner Zenyatta. Falco, however, has sired National Hunt winners, the best known of whom is Peace And Co who won the Triumph Hurdle at the 2015 Cheltenham Festival.

He was bought by Ron Huggins, who owned the Ascot Gold Cup winner Double Trigger. Anthony Honeyball trained him to race thirteen times, and in his last six runs he finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd x 2 and 4th. His debut juvenile hurdle run was excellent, with the Racing Post describing him as “a sure-fire winner in waiting”. Unfortunately he picked up an injury, came to us for some TLC and seems to have made a full recovery. The last horse we acquired from Anthony Honeyball was Solstice Star who has since won eight times for us and loves our carpet gallops. All crossed for the same result with Black Prince.

For further information please contact Paul Davis on 07307 194998 (email: pauldavispdavis@yahoo.co.uk) or call Belinda on 07979 694866.

Freddie and Blackie at Olympia

Well done to our smallest members of the team - Freddie and his shetland pony, Brewards Kerwen (Blackie), who have been racing in the Shetland Pony Grand National all week at Olympia and look like they are having a brilliant time.  They've been racing all over the country this year, improving all the time and have done very well to be one of just 11 combinations selected for Olympia.  It's only their first season together too. Good luck to them both for the rest of the weekend and let's hope they manage to get that magical first Olympia win under their belts.

Freddie has raised over £2600 so far for the Bob Champion Cancer Trust - you'll find his fundraising page HERE

Mini-Me's take centre stage on ITV Racing

Freddie recently entered a 'Junior Jumpers' Competition to try to win the chance to become an ITV Mini Me Presenter for three episodes in the run up to The Cheltenham Festival.

His video audition must have impressed the judges as he received the exciting news that he was to become Mini Ed Chamberlin and he was absolutely thrilled. The first episode, filmed during the November Meeting at Cheltenham, was aired on the Opening Show on Cheltenham's December Saturday and shortly afterwards he started filming the second episode due to be aired on Festival Trials Day at the end of January.

The other 'mini mes' are Alice Plunkett, Oli Bell, Matt Chapman and Richard Hoiles and Freddie (& Harry his number 1 supporter) are enjoying every moment.

AND FINALLY......

From all of the team at Condicote we wish you all a very
Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

The weather may be getting colder but you'll always get a warm welcome at Condicote Stables, do come and see us when you can.

Warmest Regards
Martin, Belinda, Freddie, Harry and all the team at Condicote Stables
