Sharing a secret, Owners’ Day 2018.

A Special Day

Dear Friends,

It was wonderful to welcome so many of you to the yard recently - somewhere around 150 visitors came for Owners' Day 2018 which was absolutely fantastic.

We were delighted to parade our largest ever number of horses, including the most exciting selection of youngsters - ably compered by our MC for the day, Paul Davis, and in partnership with Martin's expert commentary which worked really well.

As ever it is teamwork that makes an event like this happen and it wouldn't be possible without the efforts of so many of you especially Janne Bishop who was not only responsible for cooking a huge amount of the fantastic food on offer but, with the help of Mary Cull, Tilly Jarrett and Andrea Williams, not only served food to everyone but also took on the mammoth job of washing up afterwards.

On the subject of food, we were overwhelmed with the generosity and kindness from all the numerous wonderful people who brought their amazing homecooked dishes - thank you all. And thanks go to Paul Lockley who kindly refereed the parking that day and did such a sterling job of it.

A big thank you also to Racing Club Member Pete Wilson and his trusty camera for once again ensuring we had a wonderful selection of great photos that captured the day brilliantly.

As ever we consider ourselves so lucky to have such a dedicated team at the yard and such a fantastic group of owners who make these events such a pleasure.

Many of you no doubt have seen the exciting range of talented youngsters brought in over the summer, and we've had plenty of interest both on and after Owners' Day so our advice if interested is: don't delay - come and view them privately and watch them on the gallops.

More Yard Improvements

We are very grateful to our landlords, Robert Wharton and his wife Pauline, for their continued support and also for helping with various aspects of Owners Day.

Thanks to them we're improving the yard further with a new warm water washdown, and also a new stable block for ten horses. This further cements our commitment to having the best equipped smaller yard in the business.

Recommend a Friend

Don't forget to recommend a friend if you know somebody who would  like to enjoy the thrills of ownership - there could be some bubbles in it for you.

This issue we have two recipients of the fizzy stuff: It was James Fairrie's turn to enjoy a magnum of Bollinger last month after he recommended Brendan Merriman.

Soon afterwards we also were able to supply another to Ollie Ryan who recommended nephew Kieran into a partnership.

A warm welcome to both Brendan and Kieran.

Ownership Opportunities & New Horses
1/4 share available

"Bay Dude"

3yo gelding by Sulamani out of Sky Calling

1/4 share available at £4,000 plus 25% of all training fees and ongoing expenses.

Sulamani has to be the ultimate dual purpose sire having bred both a classic winner (Mastery - 2009 St. Leger) and a Grand National winner (Rule the World - 2016) as well as many other flat horses rated 80+ and jumps horses rated 130+. Sadly no longer with us his progeny continue to be much sought after.
Sky Calling spent many seasons with us here at Luckley and was a firm yard favourite. As genuine as they come, she was as tough as nails and gave her all on every visit to the track. She recorded wins on the flat, over hurdles and fences too. Now retired, she is enjoying life as a brood mare in residence at Yorton Farm stud.
“Boysie” is showing plenty of his dam’s attitude on the gallops and takes to his work with great enthusiasm. Not overly big but well put together.  He will run on the turf in October before the all weather season starts and then continue to run on the all weather during the winter.
The ownership group 'Born To Run Racing' will be run by Mark Allen, who has been an owner with us since our Point to Point days. Mark will provide frequent communication and full transparency on costs while encouraging full involvement in all the fun aspects of ownership, not least regular yard visits.

Bay Filly By Mahler out of Bobset Leader
Bay Gelding By Mahler out of Silver Set
By the up-and-coming sire, Mahler we have available an extremely exciting 3yo filly with an excellent pedigree. Sixth shares available through Martin Keighley Racing Partnerships. The two offspring of the dam who have raced so far are both multiple winners, rated in the OR 140s.

Also available is a 3yo gelding from this sire, really well put together and a strong, durable type.

Next we have a 3yo gelding by Morozov with a fantastic dam line full of Group winners on the Flat as well as NH successes. In the dam line are two current NH emerging stars, Indian Hawk (with Nicky Henderson) and Melekhov (with Philip Hobbs).  Several of our owners are in Melekhov and they really urged us to buy this horse. Tenth shares available in this exciting horse.

Do get in touch as soon as possible if you’re interested in buying any of these horses or, potentially, joining a syndicate to own them.

Enquiries to Martin on 07767 472547 or Jon Hughes on 01451 850780.
Bay Gelding By Morozov out of Barasa

3yo by Yeats out of Change Of Plan

3yo By Yeats out of Change Of Plan

A year ago we bought the lovely scopey Ben Buie at Goffs Doncaster and he has done nothing but impress us. So when we had the opportunity to buy his half brother this time around we had to consider it very seriously indeed. As soon as Ben Buie wins he could be a £100k+ horse.

We were delighted when Gerry Hogan also recommended him highly and we snapped him up for a quarter of that price. He was backed and turned away in the summer and has been back in work for 6 weeks. He is a physically imposing type by Yeats with a lot of presence & light on his feet despite his size. Martin loves him.

Come and judge for yourself.

1/6 Share Available

Pomme De Nuit

5yo bay mare by Midnight Legend out of Apple Days

1/6th lease share:  £340 per month for training and ongoing expenses (nothing else to pay)
Due to a sad bereavement in the partnership, a 6th lease share has become available in this mare.  It really is a wonderful opportunity to become an owner at zero capital cost, as all you have to pay is the share of keep costs for the season ahead.  Pomme De Nuit will be racing early this autumn as well, so this really is a bargain.
She is beautifully bred, by the extremely successful NH sire Midnight Legend, from a gorgeous chasing point-to-point family containing the 15x winner, Dabinett Moon.  She will be stepping up to long distance novice handicap hurdles this season.
