 Humble Apology
It appears that we had a "perfect storm' of things go wrong at our most recent member meeting, and we do apologize. We want to let you know that the Holiday Inn staff felt badly as well, and reached out to us immediately after the meeting with profuse apologies for the various things that didn't go according to plan. Not only are they very sorry, but they decided to not charge us anything for the meeting, which is incredibly generous of them! We will use that extra wiggle room in the budget to make our June event even more spectacular than planned for our members. We thank you in advance for your understanding that sometimes, things just go wrong.
Upcoming Spotlight January 23
Wednesday January 23, 2019 - Better together Spotlight
Location: Venture North Building 270 George St N, Peterborough, ON
Time: 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm .   Host: Josee Kiss

Please join us on January 23rd in the lobby of Venture North where we will have the pleasure of learning more about three amazing women and their mobile businesses. There will be refreshments and finger food for all to enjoy as you make your way around the room learning about each of the following women and their businesses:

Helping others has always been a priority for Grace Reynolds. Her passion and dedication to clients has earned her national recognition. She has been awarded Canada’s Best Newcomer Agent for 2018 as well as one of Canada’s 50 Top Young Guns.

Deanna Hunt’s passion for animal welfare and public education is the driving force behind Kawartha Aquarium services. Helping people connect with nature and de-stress is what it’s all about. Plus, we like to get creative with these living works of art!

Christine Teixeira is the owner of Accountability Financial, where she provides bookkeeping and income tax preparation services for small businesses and individuals in Peterborough and the Kawartha region. Christine’s background in the engineering industry gives her a unique perspective and proves she is meticulous, detail oriented, and skilled at problem solving, which are all attributes her clients highly value.

Nicole Van Stone's passion is to build wealth through real estate by finding her clients their dream home, cottage, lake house or investment property.  She fell in love with the Kawarthas and has been enjoying all it has to offer since moving to Ennismore from Toronto in 2015.

Looking forward to seeing you all at this WBN Biz Spotlight Kickoff for the New Year.

Highlights from January's Meeting:
Look at that cheque! We raised over $22,000 at our December Gala thanks to all of you!
Confused about CASL by Diane Wolf
Diane Wolf Counselling and Diane Wolf Consulting

Confused about CASL? Read on…

CASL stands for Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation, and it is important that you understand how it affects you and your business in terms of commercial electronic messages (CEMs). These may include emails, text messages, and some social media posts. The legislation came into effect in stages over the last several years, but here is a summary of what you need to know.

Please note the C in CEM stands for Commercial! This is a message intended to solicit business. The legislation does not apply to messages you send to provide information, or to greet clients. If someone has given you the email address of someone they are referring you to, you are also allowed to send one message to that person, ensuring that it is clear that they can unsubscribe from receiving further messages. You must also give the full name of the person who referred you. For example, if our President told me that you might be interested in working with me, I could email you with the following subject line: “Tracey Ormond recommended I contact you”.

You may not send CEMs to people without their consent. It gets tricky though, because there is an implied consent in some cases. For our purposes, you MAY send CEMs to other WBN members, but you must be sure to include an option for them to unsubscribe to avoid receiving further messages. You must keep track of who has unsubscribed, so that if you download a new member list, you must remove anyone who has previously unsubscribed.
