Our speaker: Jocasta Boone
Engaging Women in Political Action – Getting to 30%
When women get involved in the political process communities change. In 1995 the UN endorsed a target of 30% women’s representation at all levels of decision making. How are we doing? Find out in this engaging and enlightening presentation that explores today’s realities of women in the leadership and political roles, why it’s important that women’s voices be a part of the decision-making process, the challenges that still lay before us, and what we can do to create positive change.

September Spotlight
Camp Kawartha
What an amazing facility!
Our first spotlight of the season was held at Camp Kawartha's Peterborough location on Pioneer Road near Trent University. If you missed it, you may want to make sure you find an opportunity to visit! I think most of us who were there for the first time were simply blown away by the beauty of this facility and the way it incorporates sustainable construction and maintenance programs into its mandate.Camp Kawartha has two facilities available to rent from September to June – the overnight facility north of Lakefield, and the day-use f acility in Peterborough. Proceeds from facility rentals help support outdoor and environmental programming for children and youth.

We learned about how the educational programs help teach our children about sustainability and how the centre partners with Trent University's Teacher Education program, as well as Fleming to help train classroom teachers. Thank you to Karen Copson for hosting an informative and fun evening!
