Hello Friend,
As the autumn leaves change colour in Canada, we are  awed by the beauty of His creation as well as His promise of Hebrew 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

That seems to be the tension of our days; working and caring for His Creation, with change that is occurring faster than we can comprehend, and the assurance of a God that is steadfast and never changing.

This month we look at Vennture's first pillar "formation": helping to understand the theology of Faith and work. Enjoy the music of “Yes I Will”, and share the newsletter with a friend so they can subscribe and ponder with thanksgiving the gift of work and how your work is part of God’s mission in the world.

This month’s article explores what “Formation” means for you in the intersection of your faith and work. Doing God’s Business, a video series by IMT (Institute for Marketplace Transformation) is a great introduction for small groups or individual study to begin an understanding of how faith and work intersect in everyday life.

The Power of Ordinary Work

We hear a lot about the value of hard work. Our parents, grandparents, and teachers all promote the message. My husband’s grandfather always asked only one question: “Are you getting enough work?”

My paternal grandfather was a teacher, boatbuilder and pattern maker who worked into his mid 80’s, still building boats. Both men lived through two world wars and the Great Depression. They both had a deep-rooted faith and knew that living it out through their work and in all aspects of life was integral and essential to life itself.

But somehow this has gone astray, and our lives reflect the unbiblical sacred/secular dualism where what happens at Church on Sunday is ministry, and Monday to Saturday are for secular activities.
