thirds.
Round 15, had us coming up against Garfield, a strong side that has shown over the whole season to be very competitive and a side that has had many very good wins. We came into the match well aware that we needed to be at the top of our game to give us a chance to try get over the top of them.
It was a very hard-fought affair with both teams throwing themselves at every contest, Garfield controlled more of the game than we did, and probably over the whole game had the better of some of the plays throughout.
Going into the last quarter it was under a two-goal lead for Garfield and it was important for us to get the first goal. That didn’t go to plan though with Garfield getting that goal and making it very hard for us to get the result we were after. However, the boys rallied very quickly and after Garfield’s goal we were able to get a good clearance from the centre and get the ball forward to kick a goal ourselves. That sparked our boy’s interest. So back to the centre and we were able to get another clearance, get the ball into our forward line again and get another quick goal. So now it was less than a goal and it was game on. After many minutes of contested footy, we won a mark forward and a fifty-metre penalty and were able to hit the front with about two minutes to play.
It was an amazing effort from the boys, and they were able to play every minute of the game and sneak away with a win against another great side. Lochlan Clarke again was a steady hand controlling things in defense, Oliver Sail started forward and kicked a few goals before coming into the ruck and helped turn the game. Tom Exposito gave plenty of run and along with Jett Edwards were both strong through the midfield and across half back. Ryley Potter was a good target up forward and was able to kick two goals, including the match winner, it was also great for the team to have Logan Fox play a strong return game on the wings for his first game back after having a long period out with injury.
