THIS BRAND TAG LANDED A $10K PROPOSAL IN MY INBOX
Today's Quick Tip is is an anecdote about the power of pitching through a simple brand tag on Instagram. When you think about PITCHING, does your mind automatically go to sending an email?  DEFINITELY! / NOT NECESSARILY. Mine did.

While this strategy isn't a form of direct pitching, it's an indirect pitching strategy that just landed a $10k proposal in my inbox AKA it works


ARE YOU UTILIZING YOUR BRAND TAGS IN YOUR IG POSTS TO THEIR FULLEST?
Think about what tags you add to your posts on Instagram. How many on this list can you mentally check off?
  • Brand tags (ex: @shopbop) - Great for exposure to potential new followers who engage with the brand, and for potential collaboration opportunities. 
  • Inspiration account tags (ex: @ootdmagazine) - Great for exposure to potential new followers who engage with the account, and an opportunity to be reposted.
  • Popular media website tags (ex: @laurenconradco) - Great for exposure to potential new followers who engage with the account, an opportunity to be reposted, and an opportunity for press or media coverage (side note, my @laurenconradco tags have landed me 3 Instagram features on the brand's page and press features on their website).
  • Online publication tags (ex: @elleusa) - Great for exposure to potential new followers who engage with the brand, an opportunity for press or media coverage and for potential collaboration opportunities.
If you're not checking off all 4, it's time to start! Now, I'm not actively pitching to online publications or magazines, as it's not one of my current goals. That being said, I make a conscious effort to tag these publications when appropriate (never use a tag if it doesn't make sense) throughout my posts. 

Lo and behold, earlier this week, one of the online publications that I had been actively tagging over the past 1-2 months in relevant posts reached out with a $10k proposal for a piece of video content to be distributed on their website. Not only is it a win for my bank account, but it's also an incredible press opportunity. 

I'm telling you this story because I never would have otherwise had any connection to the publication had I not been utilizing their tag on my Instagram posts. If that's not enough of a reason to start, I don't know what is!
