Proposed University of Utah Baseball Stadium Development
Chris Hill, PhD, University of Utah, Director of Athletics and Jonathon Bates, CPM Director
In early April 2016, Dr. Chris Hill, University of Utah Director of Athletics announced the U’s intention to take steps toward planning and building an on campus baseball stadium. An April 19, 2016 SLTrib article stated that “The Ute’s are currently housed at Smith's Ballpark, a 15,411-seat stadium that is the home of the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees. Hill said the relationship has been good with the Bees and general manager Marc Amicone (and the franchise is owned by Miller Sports Properties), but logistically, scheduling Utah home games around the Bees' schedule is more difficult than ever.”  Several months after this announcement, the University of Utah retained outside consultant services to evaluate possible on campus locations for a baseball stadium expansion.
Upon completion, the consultant work considered 12  (twelve) possible sites for a new baseball stadium. From the 12 possible sites, a University of Utah internal review committee has narrowed down recommended sites to a final four. Of the four, one site in particular poses particular challenges to both the Yalecrest Neighborhood and the East Bench Master Plan.
Please join your neighbors and University officials in discovering more about this proposed project, the East Bench Master Plan, future city park and recreation opportunity and Yalecrest Neighborhood considerations.
