新年好 (Xīn nián hǎo)

Chinese New Year Celebration - the Year of the Dog

Please add your name to the volunteer sign up sheet on the bulletin board outside the music room. We need a few people to help with set up, clean up, and the various activities on offer to ensure this special event is a success.

February Break - A reminder that there are no classes the week of 19 - 23 for February Break. Our teachers will be in conferences for their Professional Development days. High School students will be taking part in "Work Experience Week", as they take up placements throughout the community.

Recommitment at the Grade School & High School - To ensure a place in your child's class, please be sure to complete the re-enrollment process by the end of the month. Details can be found in this letter which was sent home on February 1.

Emergency Contact Forms - Emergency contact and health forms were due at the beginning of the school year. If you have still not submitted this information, please do it now either online in your Parent Portal or using the paper form which was sent home with some students 2 weeks ago.

Chinese New Year Celebration: Joy of Reunion - Help make the magic happen and join a warm and friendly team of volunteers. Please see the note above about volunteering.

Lost & Found - What an abundance of beautiful winter coats, pants, t-shirts, etc... in the Lost & Found box! On Friday, February 16 you are invited to help yourself to whatever is left in this box; the remainder will be taken to the goodwill!

For our February Board meeting, held on Wednesday, February 7th, we had Vantage Point (a not-for-profit leadership organization) lead us through a workshop session on governance. What the School needs from the Board has changed dramatically from what the School needed three years ago, and we felt that some professional training would help us define what our role should be given our current status, and how we can be more effective in our work.

With 28 wonderful vendors, this will be our largest Marketplace yet! You'll find handmade toys, Waldorf supplies, gifts, clothing, and so much more.

Activities for young and old include: Make your own Play Silk, Eurythmy led by Marie-Reine, Biodynamic Preparation (stir & take home!) lead by Ruth, Sweet Spring Crafts, Willow Weaving, and Easter Grass.

We will have roving minstrels, and as fundraisers students from Grade 11 will be offering face painting & and a sit-down lunch/cafe with all money going towards their 2019 Grade 12 trip.

To make all this happen, we are requesting volunteers:
  • Set Up (Friday @ 3 pm) and Take Down (Saturday) - strong helpers required!
  • Musicians - if you’ve got a hidden musical talent, now is the time to share it :)
  • Silk Painting and Craft Room Assistants
  • Red Door Store - volunteers will receive training on the new and easy to use POS and get a 20% discount on regularly stocked items.

High School Students during Snow Day

On the bus to Whistler for some fun on the slopes!

If students are feeling unwell we request that they remain home until fit for school, and that we be informed of their absence immediately. Students who experience high fevers should not be sent back to school until 24 hours after the fever and any accompanying symptoms have abated. A child’s general medical care is the responsibility of the child’s parents. We do not offer routine medical check-ups and do not arrange for children to be inoculated.

Sick beds are available in our main office and are reserved for temporary use only. First aid is administered by qualified staff members. Students who are not well enough to attend lessons or those who have sustained an injury requiring further care will be returned to their parents’ care as soon as possible.

And on that note, I wish you all a happy and healthy February Break and look forward to seeing everyone back on February 26.
Many blessings
