MANAGEMENT TEAM

The Management Team is an operations group made up of the three department managers, Susan Connon-Wilby, Business Manager, Mary Henley, Community and Resource Development Manager, and Malcolm Nash, Pedagogical Manager, plus Lorna Fortin, Principal and Peggy Tan, Early Childhood Centre Manager. We meet weekly to oversee the day-to-day operations of the school. Since the beginning of this school year, our meeting agendas have included items like parking lot safety, emergency procedures policy and emergency contact information collection, staffing and resourcing, an online inventory system for the Red Door Store, facilities maintenance schedule, and parent education programming.

THE PASSAGE

Photo credit Bernice Discon, thank you for sharing!
"An extraordinary Grade 10 play tonight, with the aliveness which can only come when all players are fully engaged in the collaborative process of making theatre from the inside out. Kudos to drama teacher Sandra Ferens for serving as 'the funnel' (her word) for their artistic process. The intense working together of the students - from imagination to ideas to discussion to creating dialogue, movement, blocking..., and everything which is demanded by ensemble work - is such a 'proof-is-in-the-pudding' for the continuous social artmaking that Waldorf classes do so superbly from Grade 1. Tonight's production was described as an unfinished 'work in progress'; I hope it is carried on in some way by the entire class, or a few students. Too many good ideas to leave it here. Another spectacular example of the innovative & artistic strengths of this education..... and the ongoing challenge to bring it out of the old main hall to a wider audience." ~ AFL

We had the pleasure of hosting Kim John Payne, childhood expert, last weekend for a talk on raising teens and tweens. This video is not that talk however, it does touch on some similar themes if you missed the event or are looking for more.

POLICY REVIEW

"Waldorf education seeks to nurture and fully develop each child's imaginative and intellectual capacities. Current research confirms that the capacity for imagination is impaired by repeated exposure to electronic media.
  • ...children in grades 1-3 not be exposed to electronic media in any form in their daily lives.
  • ...children in grades 4-5 not have access to electronic media (“screens”) on a regular basis and especially not on a school night or morning.
  • ...middle school students not have access to electronic media during the school week."
Please read more from the VWS Media Policy.

A few articles to help you on your way A takeaway from last Friday was when Kim Payne stated that he is not anti-screen but is rather pro-connection. What can you do to support your child's authentic connection to nature, to friends, to family, and to self?

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
Many blessings
