Welcome to the new school year! On Wednesday night the Board of Trustees held a joint meeting with the College of Teachers to discuss the VWS Strategic Plan. Rachel Garratt, on behalf of the Strategic Planning and Visioning Committee, updated us on the status of the project, and we had a good group discussion on how to best continue to push it forward. Both the Board and the College reconfirmed their positions that the Strategic Planning exercise is an important component of the continuing development of our School, and we all are committed to progressing it. Read More

Rachael Perry, Grade School French
Bonjour! I'm delighted to join the Vancouver Waldorf School community. I've already received such a warm welcome from both my new colleagues and students. I was born in England, but immigrated to Ottawa when I was very young. I was one of the first children to experience the French Immersion program, which I followed until Grade 10. I then returned to England where I completed my degree in Honours French. I spent a year teaching in France so that I could fully experience the culture. I taught French in England for a few years before becoming the Head of the Modern Languages faculty.
My heart belonged to Canada however, but this time I landed in Vancouver. I have taught in several school districts here at both the elementary and secondary level. I have also been busy raising my three lovely children. Other than French, my passions are travel and photography. I'm excited to share the gift of a second language with the students and am looking forward to a fun and rewarding year.

"We are building an inclusive, compassionate and engaging school community with transparent processes. We work to support simplifying children’s lives, creating a rhythmical day so they can relax and feel held by the adults in charge. We are striving to create a safe harbour where expressions and resolutions can be heard and met."

~The Early Childhood Faculty

The First Seven Years - What can parents and teachers do to support a child’s physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual development? Each session builds on earlier sessions, and we encourage participants to attend the series as a whole. This Seminar Series is at 7:30 pm on Tuesday evenings beginning next week on September 12.

Building Social Health in the Digital Age - Special guest Christof Wiechert will guide us on the topic of Building Social Health in the Digital Age. Please take up this opportunity to attend this unique lecture at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, October 18.

The Inner Life of Bees Study Group - Join us for an in depth exploration of the Meaning of Bees. We will begin by screening The Queen of the Sun at 7:00 pm on Monday October 23, then continue with discussion for an additional 4 Mondays (breaking on November 6). We will meet again in the spring for an additional 5 weeks for a practical hands-on experience learning about beekeeping, as we install a hive and introduce honey bees to our Grade School campus.

Walk for Reconciliation - Join the Vancouver Waldorf School team! The purpose of this year's walk is to honour residential school survivors, intergenerational survivors, and to bring together Canadians of all backgrounds in a stand against intolerance and injustice. Meet at 9:00 am at Queen Elizabeth Plaza on September 24. ~ register here and search Vancouver Waldorf School.
