Making a difference
Before the last American elections some people joked about the possibility of Donald Trump becoming president.  Others added, “Can you imagine a President Trump and a Prime Minister Boris Johnson together?”  The seemingly improbable has, at least for the time being, become a reality.
We should always expect the unexpected!  The bible is full of stories of how unlikely characters have risen to prominence and some have even become heroes and heroines.  It’s sobering to think that at some level we all have flaws; yet it is also an encouragement to know that all is not lost.
However we might feel about the current political situation, in our own context we can start the new academic year in the knowledge that we really can make a positive difference.  Strong leadership teams complement one another’s strengths and weaknesses so that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
‘But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest
on me.’  2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)
‘Don’t let the behaviour of others destroy your inner peace.’  Dalai Lama
‘Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged,
for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”  Joshua 1 v.9 (NIV)
