Big Things Happen in South End

The Charlotte Center City Innovation Fund has awarded grants to 27 local businesses in Round 4 in an effort to spur and support innovation as they continue to adapt to the new economic realities and opportunities caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Round 4 granted a total of #1,034,000, and 6 of the grantees are in South End! These grantees join the 116 businesses that received $3.6 million in grants during the first three rounds of the Fund. Round 4 of the Innovation Fund was made possible by the founding sponsor, Honeywell, and supporting sponsors Duke Energy, the Knight Foundation, and Bank of America, in partnership with Foundation For The Carolinas and Charlotte Center City Partners.

Get Ready to Crawl 

Art is in South End's DNA, adding to the vibrancy and individuality of the neighborhood. First Friday Gallery Crawl is one way to celebrate local art, and the event is back on September 3! Join Gallery at C3, Dilworth Artisan Station, Hodges Taylor, and StudioWorks as they keep their doors open late to showcase local artists. Travel around South End in style with Free Cart Ride, just text 704-238-3111 for a ride.

Say "I Do" to New Openings

South End's newest bridal boutique, Vow'd, opened on Camden St. last week. Vow'd believes that every bride and bridesmaid deserves a beautiful dress, no matter the budget or size. The shop offers a personalized shopping experience with knowledgeable bridal stylists and online try-at-home options. Mark your calendars for the shop's grand opening party on September 18th!

Paranoia Pinball has officially opened in the space formerly known as Palmer Street Arcade. Play pinball until your thumbs hurt on their many machines, it's only $.50 per play! Enjoy craft beers on draft while you play. 
 

New Art Celebrates Furry Friends

Skiptown recently unveiled their Founder's Mural featuring 750 pups hand-painted by 16 local artists. The mural is the largest dog mural in Charlotte, measuring 72 ft x 12 ft! Skiptown founder and CEO, Meggie Williams, says: "We’re thrilled to have this mural come to life and bring together some of the area’s most talented artists while featuring over 750 of our pup members.” 

Artists include Sydney and Ann Duarte, Kristen Daily, Maguelin Nya, Ida Mae, Emily Kinser, Abby Buhler, Carla Garrison-Mattos, Bethany Hadden, Chris McCoy, Ally Lashay Nelso, Bonnie Quillen, James Bourke, Ana Romero, Ilan Hutchinson, and Seann Vicente.
