Newsletter December 2019 Do you already have a list of good intentions for 2020? We offer you two: become a volunteer for our House of Song and Sound project and take part in our Melody Makers workshop. Before time runs out, a tip for this year: Order your ticket(s) in time for our (Non)Corpus: God concerts on 22 and 28 December in the Dominicuskerk.
With the (Non)Corpus trilogy, the Genetic Choir celebrates the human voice as a connecting element, and challenges people to listen through the ears of a different context.
How is the voice experienced by a faithful Muslim, a faithful Christian, or a contemporary concert-goer of no faith? When does the voice touch something we have no words for?
TRY OUT / TALKS PAKHUIS DE ZWIJGER AND MYSTIC FESTIVAL
On November 20 the first try-out of (Non)Corpus: God took place in Pakhuis de Zwijger. An intense and very special evening. Dedicated speakers put the audience on the right track to let them listen in a different way. A good impression of this evening can heard in the trailer above. The warm words, comments and feedback we will take with us in our process towards the premiére on 22 December.
Within a sparkling program of Arab, Pakistani and Afghan musicians, the Genetic Choir was the final act on the Mystic Festival in Rotterdam on 30 November. We performed parts of the (Non)Corpus: God concert between the audience.
Festival director Shervin Nekuee about our performance: "What a trip! I've been to so many special, different places just by listening to you right now."
PREMIERE CONCERT DOMINICUSKERK
The concerts at the Dominicuskerk are a non-repeatable, immersive experience of sound and light every night. The audience is actively taken along and can choose a different ‘route’ through the concert per evening. Inspired speakers Mehmet Yamali, Sander van Maas, Floris Schuiling and Juut Meijer give an introduction from their background about the ‘best’ way of listening. Special guests are impro-jazz musician Ab Baars and the Afghan singer Ilyas Nadjafi.
Given the limited number of places, it is recommended to make a reservation now. Sunday, December 22 - 08:00 PM [premiere] > tickets Saturday December 28 - 08:00 PM > tickets
