GENETIC CHOIR - Summer 2018

voor Nederlands, scroll naar beneden
10 Hours of lost wanderings and sea monsters, of whirlpools and shipwreck, of welcoming hosts, troubled love affairs and raging gods: Join us for a reading of the Odyssey, read by 200 readers and accompanied by 10 hours of live music, instantly composed by the Genetic Choir.

Invited by and set in the frame of Giorgos Gripeos work 'an odyssey', the International Readers of Homer and the Genetic Choir perform a 10 hour participatory reading of Homer's Odyssey on Saturday 14 July, and you can be part of it!

As part of the Over het Ij Festival, it will all happen in Nieuw Dakota on the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam, between 12:00 and 22:00. The performance will also be continuously streamed to the ferries between Westerdoksdijk and Pontsteiger.

You are welcome to just pass by or stay for the whole journey. You are also invited to register here as a reader and read a 3 minute piece of the Odyssey yourself. Participants are invited to read a passage in any way or any language they might like. You don't need any previous experience in reading publicly to participate!
“The Odyssey was composed in the 8th century BCE and this epic tale of a hero’s star-crossed journey home from war is among the handful of stories we’ve used to understand ourselves. In the migratory conditions of our times, the poem’s themes of displacement and loss, yearning for home and the trials of separation, remain as powerful and relevant as ever.”

Location: Nieuw Dakota (NDSM werf), Ms.van Riemsdijkweg 41b, Amsterdam
Date/Time: 14 July, 12:00-22:00
Entrance: free / come at any time

Nederlands & aanvullend:

And what else...?
  • Genetic Choir has done 7 very different, artistically very satisfying collaborations with public performances in the last few months. Check the Concert Archive if you'd like to read about them.
  • The Loop-Copy-Mutate project is invited for November Music in 2019. We are looking forward to it!
  • The preparations of the (Non)Corpus trilogy (2019-2021), a continuation of the Church Songs For The 21st Century series, are well underway. An artistic research period is planned for this autumn (2018), for which we are looking for people from outside the Ensemble to get involved to talk/workshop with us about the question how we deal with the things in our lives that we cannot put into words.
  • There might be a Introduction Workshop Genetic Choir happening on the 1st of September.
Stay informed via our blog to hear about all this!
