Welcome to CMY's new Voluntary Sector Newsletter. We hope this is helping to fill the gap left by the closure of the long running "Voluntary News" (which we used to subscribe to). While Voluntary News was produced weekly, we decided after careful consideration that to maintain a regular schedule with current resources, we would aim for newsletter production Monthly (on or near  30th of the month).  We are pleased to be continuing a valued service and hope you find it useful too!

New parliamentary group launches to increase philanthropic giving
The APPG on Philanthropy and Social Investment held its first meeting on Monday in Parliament, where the group published a report outlining its priorities.  Its report, called Philanthropy in the UK Today, says the current public and political narrative around philanthropy “seems ambivalent at best”. ‘Remove need for trading subsidiaries’, charity umbrella bodies urge
Sector umbrella bodies have called for a change to the UK’s tax regime to allow charities to undertake all trading without having to set up a subsidiary company. Read the full story here.
‘Trustees should discuss potential mergers every year’
Trustees should hold yearly discussions on whether merging with another organisation would benefit their beneficiaries, the chair of a recently merged charity has said. Read the full story here
Changes to pension regulations have had a ‘disappointing’ impact for charities
Government changes to pension regulations have not had the expected benefit for charities, sector experts have said. In April last year, the Department for Work and Pensions introduced “section 75” rule changes for employers with staff in multi-employer pension schemes. Read the full story here.
Charity Commission says it has had its 'busiest year'
The regulator published its annual report yesterday. This included a 60 per cent jump in its use of formal investigatory and enforcement powers compared to the previous year, 83 per cent more reports from whistle blowers inside the charity sector, and a 50 per cent increase in the number of serious incidents reports Read the full story here.

The charity has produced three pre-recorded webinars. The webinar series guides organisations through three core modules. Each module had been designed to address the different stages of developing a digital marketing strategy. read more here.
