Welcome to our Inaugural Issue of The Circle!

We've spent our summer hard at work clarifying our message and instituting ways to reach you and members of the community who aren't yet familiar with WGGS. We're so excited to show you how we've been changing and growing, including a brand-new executive director, this newsletter, our first major fundraiser, and a new website

-Gwynne DeLong, President of the Board

Spotlight on Girls

One of our favorite aspects of the spring Girls' Celebration Dinner is displaying some of the girls' favorite craft projects. Here are a few crafts that girls assembled as part of a discussion on healthy and unhealthy relationships.
Become a Muse
  • Do you care about supporting girls and encouraging their healthy development?
  • Are you flexible, a team player, able to listen and learn from others, able to laugh easily?
  • Would you volunteer a couple of hours a week to support middle school girls in Schenectady?

If so, become a volunteer muse and join other dedicated, warm-hearted women to co-lead a Girls’ Circle of 6-10 middle school girls in Schenectady. Muses receive approximately ten hours of training in October and November, then spend time with "their" girls weekly or bi-weekly through May or June.

Interested in learning more? Contact Laura at lalafontaine13@gmail.com or join us at for our Muse Orientation on Tuesday, October 4th from 6-7:30 pm at Planned Parenthood Mohawk Hudson at 1040 State Street in Schenectady.

Know someone who would make a terrific muse? Share our Facebook event with a friend!

Special Thanks To. . .

You already know that Kulak's Nursery and Landscaping offers gorgeous plants, expert landscaping, and unique gifts. But did you know that Kulak's partners with WGGS to help make our Celebration Dinners special? Flowers from Kulak's grace the tables, and each of our girls is able to offer her specially-chosen mentor one of these lovely flowering plants to take home. As we plan special events, we're so grateful to Kulak's for helping to bring a little more beauty into our girls' lives. Next time you shop at Kulak's, please let them know how much you appreciate their support. And if you haven't visited lately, you should treat yourself: you deserve a little more beauty, too!
We're Also Happy to Report. . .
  • $5000 awarded by the Zonta Club of Schenectady, the proceeds from their Mom Prom.
  • $750 awarded by Wheelock College's Marjorie Wolf Memorial Grant in support of the Girls' Circles Program.
