Parent-briendly Bronze course starts 5th October: Sign up now!

Get your Bronze Medallion this year—this basic lifesaving certification is a great way to get involved in Nippers and the club, and anyone can do it. Last year's course had participants ages 15 to 56. (We'll also hold an intensive course for youth once school is out in December.)

Visit this Team App post for dates and sign-up information. All members 15+ are welcome.

Already have your Bronze? We'll be running Advanced Resuscitation Techniques and First Aid (ARTFA) training on 16th October. Email me if you're interested.

Reach out to me with any questions—we hope to see you there!

- Jas Lawrence, Director of Training

Join a patrol, make a changepatrol planning is on now

The season is fast approaching and we're planning the patrol roster. If you would like to join a patrol team, you need to make a change, or aren't sure where to start, please reach out to me at as soon as possible. I will be in touch with all current patrol team members in the coming weeks, so please keep an eye out.

Patrolling can be a fantastic opportunity to spend time at the beach with your friends as well as give back to the community. Please grab your mates and join a patrol team!

Exciting new things in store for Nippers

I'm your new Director of Junior ActivitiesI can't wait for this season to commence and to meet you on the beach!

We're changing a few things up this year, so I'll be sending out a Nippers-specific update with more about me and the upcoming season. In the meantime, mark your diary:

Saturday 22nd October from 2pm: Nippers Open Day
It's compulsory for at least one member of each family to attend, as we'll be discussing responsibilities for the season. Plus, we'll be opening the bar later in the day. This is a great opportunity for friends who are thinking about joining the club to stop by and find out what we're all about, so please invite anyone who might be interested. Watch Team App for details and to RSVP.

Membership sign-up and renewal are open, so avoid the waiting list (especially for U8 and U9 boys) and renew now!

- Erin Reed, Director of Junior Activities

The Starfish team are thrilled to invite all club members to kick off our 10th season with an official birthday celebration on Saturday 3 December, International Day of People with Disability, 2-4pm. We are also looking forward to the Starfish Nippers Carnival at HLSC with all Victorian clubs on 26 February 2023. An exciting season ahead!

If you're interested in mentoring a Starfish one-on-one, email me! It's an incredibly fun, rewarding experience.

Spring has sprung!

With spring here (allegedly) we are rapidly approaching the start of the 22/23 Summer Sport Season. If your U8+ is interested, please ensure you are subscribed to the correct access group in Stack Team App, as all communications will only go to those registered to the Sport access groups (to keep the volume of communications down for those not as interested).

Training should begin early October and we are seeking people interested in being part of the Sports Committee (managers, coaches, helpers), so reach out to my email below if you are keen to be involved!!

- Michael Pratt, Director of Sport

Meet your club chaplain—here to talk in challenging times

This time of year is amazing. I love spring as it is the time of new life. The warmer weather is a big plus! And we move toward a new and fresh season at the club after some challenging years.

Spring is a good opportunity to pause and consider if we are in the best shape for this new season.
Physical shape is important, as some of us have developed habits that aren’t always helpful, so we must focus on healthy diet and physical exercise. There are people at the club far more qualified than I to help you in this area should you need it.
The emotional and relational well-being aspects of our lives are often more difficult to keep on track. That’s why your club has me as its chaplain, available to all members at times of challenge. I’m available to chat any time, and it’s always confidential. Feel free to call me on 0411 871 999 if you have challenges in these areas and would like to talk.

- Colin McInnes-Smith, Club Chaplain

Youth updates and big opportunities

Joseph Hetherington, Daniel Henry and Josh Laney represented HLSC at the Life Saving Victoria LSVj Youth Symposium last month. This fabulous initiative encourages young members to have a voice and shape the future of lifesaving. Members from across the state participated in an amazing race, checked out the rescue helicopter and met Brielle Cooper, the youngest ever Nutrigrain Ironwoman winner.

Next up, the U18 Leadership Development Camp 7-9 October. Great for
leadership and lifesaving skills that could lead to paid lifeguard opportunities. The deadline has been extended through this week: Read more and sign up here.

And browse this presentation for more upcoming leadership opportunities!
