Membership renewal is now open. Visit the HLSC website renewal page for fees, links and sign-up details.

Please remember to check that:
  • Working with Children Checks for everyone age 18+ have not expired and will remain valid for the entire season
  • HLSC and LSV have been added to your MyCheck accounts (details are on our Returning Members/Renew Now page)
Note that fees remain reduced compared to previous seasons, as some social events and club activities may continue to be impacted by COVID-19.

A big thanks to the membership team, Kathryn Parfett and Laura-Jay Gaudie, who do a mountain of work behind the scenes to ensure that renewals and new members can join the club.

Finally, as you know we have been going through some challenging times of late, and everyone experiences things differently. If you need any assistance, LSV are continuing to offer member welfare services and HLSC has a Member Protection and Information Officer, Craig James at, and a Club Chaplain, Colin McInnes-Smith at Do reach out if you need a chat.

See you on the beach!
Andrew Hill, Secretary
Planning is well underway for our 2021-22 Nippers season, and we can use your help!

If you haven't already done so, please click here to complete the Nipper survey we launched yesterday. It will only take a few minutes, and the survey outcomes will inform changes and improvements to our Nipper program.

Nippers is scheduled to start in late November (fingers crossed!), however this will depend on COVID restrictions and advice from LSV and the government. As always, any updates will be posted on Team App.

After a long year of restrictions and lockdowns, I can't wait to see all the wonderful Nippers, junior coaches and parents on the beach!
Kirsten Cleland, Director of Junior Activities
As we look forward to our 9th year of Starfish Nippers at Hampton, there's heaps to be excited aboutfun, sun and seeing our friends for a really good start! We're looking forward to continuing the Bronze Medallion and surf lifesaving education and enjoying every minute in and out of the water.

We're also bringing in some new equipment, thanks to a very generous grant from the Portland House Foundation. We can't wait to unveil it on the beach!
Kerrie Curtis, Starfish Manager

Welcome to the new seasonwe hope to bring numerous training opportunities to all members as the season progresses. Keep an eye out for requal and BM/SRC camp dates over the next couple of weekswe are in the final planning stages for these events.

From 1st July, there were updates to the First Aid and Advanced Resuscitation awards that reflect changes from the Australian Resuscitation Council.

For First Aid and Advanced Resus (ART) award holders, this means:

  • CPR refresher must be completed every 12 months (don’t worry, we are aiming to incorporate this into requal day)
  • Full award training must be requalified every 3 yearswe will contact members who are required to update their skills directly
  • Completion of these awards will provide nationally accredited CPR, First Aid and ART qualifications that are recognised at all workplaces

Stay tuned for our upcoming announcements surrounding training opportunities. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at

Jas Lawrence, Chief Instructor

The patrol roster for the upcoming season is in the final planning stages and we are hoping to release this to members shortly. Please stay tuned on Team App for updates.
In addition, I’m always looking for more people to help the Lifesaving Ops team, so please let me know if you’d like to volunteer. Anything you can do is greatly appreciated.

Traditionally, we have used the winter period when the club is not as well used to undertake facility maintenance and renovations. You may remember that the changing rooms and bathrooms were renovated last year.

This winter, we had planned for new flooring in the gym, improved bar facilities and seating in the clubroom, and a refit to the kiosk. While lockdown has hampered progress on all these projects, we are hopeful that they can still be delivered by the time our season opens.
Helen Partridge, Director of Member Services

I hope you are all well and looking forward to the upcoming season. We were in a similar position this time last year in relation to COVID-19, but ended up increasing our membership numbers and running really awesome programs. Let’s aim to do even better this season!

Membership renewal information will be on its way to you soonI urge you to sign up for the forthcoming season and recommend Hampton Life Saving Club to your friends. We will roll out new member registrations soon after renewals have been processed.

Let’s stick together as a community and make the summer as much fun as possible!

Thanks to everyone who attended our virtual annual general meeting. This is a necessary part of running the club and we also combine it with an annual celebration of outstanding contributions. I would like to take this opportunity to formally thank our outgoing board members:

  • Secretary Sam Dwyer
  • Director of Life Saving Operations Lucas Welsh
  • Director of Sport Daryn Marcus

All three of you gave outstanding service to the club and were exemplary team players. On behalf of everyone at HLSC, we are grateful for your commitment to the club. In addition, further congratulations to Sam Dwyer for her life membership award I cannot think of anyone more deserving. Also, welcome to our incoming board members: Andrew Hill as secretary, Jesse Tammesild as director of life saving operations and Michael Pratt as director of sport. As you may know, Andrew and Michael are repeat offenders, while Jesse is a debutant! I look forward to working with all of you to deliver a great season.
Talking about awards…HLSC had an excellent season all around and this was acknowledged at the 2021 LSV Awards of Excellence. A big congratulations to all of our members who were nominated for awards, and a special round of applause for the following winners:

  • 2021 Team of the YearThe Lightning Bolts (Olivia May, Emily Carty, Julia Phillips and Mia Spencer, with coach Paul Taylor).
  • 2021 Nipper Volunteer of the YearZoe Murdoch
  • 2021 Education Instructor of the YearMitchell Cole
  • 2021 M&LD awardSam Dwyer

This just shows what an outstanding, diverse program we have at Hampton that excels in all aspects. Let’s keep this going and progressing on all fronts!

In this context, the board are currently working with LSV to help HLSC partner in the delivery of school programs, in particular, the Open Water Learning Experience. This will evolve into a sustainable program at Hampton and provide a great pathway for our young adult members to become instructors of a Hampton-based program.
This program is one example of how we are striving to enhance the experience of all Hampton Life Saving Club members. As many of you know, we have recently completed a strategic review and plan for the club from which this and other initiatives will develop. We will keep you all regularly updated and would welcome your feedback.
Please remember to renew your membership and tell your friends about us!

See you on the beach!
Andy Lawrence, President
