My Civic Workout: Your heart is a muscle the size of your fist. Keep loving, Keep fighting.

What to say? This Friday, Donald Trump will be sworn in as President of the United States. This inauguration week, our hearts are heavy, but there is work to be done.
The confirmation hearing of Rex Tillerson, ExxonMobil CEO and Trump’s pick for secretary of state, did not go well. Momentum is gaining to block this Putin-loving corporate oil kingpin. Using an email tool created by the Sierra Club, send a message to your senators asking that they vote against Tillerson’s confirmation.
Donald Trump decided to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by engaging in a racialized Twitter attack on Rep. John Lewis, Civil Rights movement icon-turned-Congressman. Read the story of #StandWithJohnLewis here, and send a supportive tweet to @repjohnlewis. Don’t have Twitter? Tag him in a Facebook post instead.
Read through the intersectional mission statement of the Women’s March on Washington here. Great stuff, right? Now, are you going to DC? Fabulous! But if you can’t get there, don’t worry, there are plenty of Sister Marches being held. Find one near you, get in touch with some friends, and make a plan to march the day after (ugh…) Trump’s inauguration.

Is it your first protest? We have a quick guide for newbies on staying safe while protesting.
As President Obama’s eight years in the White House come to a close, put aside some time to read “My President Was Black” by Ta-Nehisi Coates, a probing reflection on race and Obama’s legacy from the author of “The Case for Reparations.”
