It is the nature of man to rise to greatness if greatness is expected of him.
John Steinbeck

Dear Academy Community,

A favorite quote of mine by Helen Keller reads, "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." This was certainly the case at our Giving Tree Gala. Together, under the direction of Angela Helwig, parents enjoyed an incredible evening of celebration, fellowship, and teamwork. The Great Gatsby theme, a first for the Academy, brought with it much glamour and enlivened spirits. The generosity of the wide range of experiences provided by the faculty to be shared with students saw bidding at its best. CK Sweat worked his magic on all of us as numerous auction items were doubled and tripled to meet the demand. The last update I received is that the live auction alone raised $55,00.00 up from last year's $33,000.00. The evening was a tremendous success on numerous accounts and the memories made priceless.

Special shout out goes to:
Jessyka and Jason Birchard for underwriting the takeaway totes
Nancy Alessi for underwriting the flowers and decor expenses
Michelle-Marie Heinemann for providing a photographer for the evening and
Kevin Flannery and Ocean Prime for providing the food and beverages.
Angela Helwig, please know that the evening's better than best moments were made possible because you said, "Yes" to chairing this event. What a difference you have made.

The busyness of the week continued with Mr. Parkes and Mr. Willis running a full cast rehearsal practice on Saturday. We are in for a delightful show!  Special mention to Mr. Willis (Brice's dad) who has been co-directing our upcoming production as a gift to our school. He is a wonderful example to our students of how much can be accomplished if we but join together for the good of all.

May the remaining days of this school year allow all of us opportunities to impact our school community as Angela has and to express our gratitude for the countless little things people do for us each and every day.

On Friday, May 3rd, Mrs. Rosyln Willis and her students delighted us with beautiful music at morning assembly.  Our very own Sofia Birchard and  Ella St. Clair serenaded us. Mrs. Willis teaches violin classes during our after school and will be doing so again in the fall.

Please join our faculty and students on  Friday, May 17th for mass at 9:00 am.  This is a special mass in remembrance of our founder, the late Edward Cardinal Egan, Emeritus.

Father Boniface will celebrate mass. Mrs. Hocking and our Second Grade students will do the readings and petitions.  The Second Grade students will be dressed as the saint they researched and will present at morning assembly throughout the upcoming week.  Our founder would have been so very proud of the work of Second Grade in preparing for both the Sacrament of Reconciliation and of Holy Communion.  Thank you, Mrs. Hocking, for your leadership in setting your students up for success.

Please join the administration to thank our teachers for teaching Academy students with standards of excellence and with so much care. Our teachers go above and beyond for Academy students on a daily basis.

A basket of note cards will be left in the atrium the week of May 6th. Please consider letting your child's teacher know how much you appreciate him/her by writing a note. Notes may be dropped off with Mr. Barrett and he will see that they are distributed to teachers.

Teachers will be treated to bagels on Monday and a jean day on Friday.

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-May 10th. National Teacher Appreciation Day is May 7th.

Please join us at morning assembly on Monday, May 13th as we celebrate all mothers and other special women in the lives of our students.
