"The great gift of Easter is hope."
Basil C. Hume
Dear Academy Community,

For those of you who were not able to attend the Parent Association meeting on Tuesday, I shared the following updates for next year:

1. We will have 5 full days for Teacher In-Service rather than 10 Teacher In-Service Early Release days.
2. We are exploring options for offering a lunch program that you may opt into for your children. Mr. Barrett has found a food-service company that will cater to smaller communities.
3. Mr. Barrett is exploring additional programs to offer during our After-School Program.
4. We will continue to develop our PBL program in accordance with what the Upper School faculty experienced as areas for improvement--along with the feedback you provided. Thank you for your input on the PBL survey that was sent out in February. (For survey results, please visit this link:
5. We are also looking into changing our time at Chelsea Piers so that we may use the Department of Ed. buses at no cost.

We anxiously await the final report from the Visiting Team. The recommendations throughout the report will drive our planning for the next five years. This time of year is an opportunity to reflect on and refine our current policies and procedures as we prepare for the 2019/20 academic year.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Angela Coombs

Congratulations to Gabriel Hansen and his family, who welcomed a baby brother, James Peter Hansen, to their family on March 24. Gabriel and Hannah are happy to be big sibs for James!
Please call Mr. Barrett (212-243-5420) to arrange a time to meet with any of our Upper School teachers on Wednesday, April 24, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

On Thursday, April 25, we extend a warm welcome to all grandparents of the Academy to visit. Please call Mr. Barrett to let us know if grandparents from your family will be visiting (212-243-5420). Please join us for morning assembly at 8:30 am, visit classrooms and share in some refreshments.

Thank you, Mrs. Guevara, for founding a Girl Scout troop at the Academy and thank you, Mrs. Perez, for assisting.  Our girls are learning that it takes effort,  time and sacrifices to realize their goals. Thank you for this important lesson.  I see several entrepreneurs in the future!

A reminder to please wear your badge (blue, pink, or orange) when you are in the building. If you have lost your badge, please come to the office for a replacement.

Our gala is only weeks away! Please help to make this an historic success by:
1. attending
2. inviting friends to join you
3. selling raffle tickets
4. soliciting donations for the silent auction
5. offering your assistance to the Gala Committee
Please help the Committee specifically by purchasing your ticket and securing an auction item. I understand that many parents of our alumni/ae and other former parents are joining us. We are less than a month away.

The Upper School will continue our tradition of participating in the Poem in Your Pocket Day on Thursday, April 25. Our students will be joined by poets and other students from around the New York City Metropolitan area at an open mic forum at Bryant Park. Throughout the month of April, students, faculty, and parents have been sharing a favorite poem at morning assembly. If you are interested in sharing a poem, please let Ms. Coombs know.

Thank you to the Parent Association for hosting our 10th annual book fair! We love this tradition, and we're happy to expose our students to so many wonderful books. Many thanks again!

This coming Tuesday, April 16, we encourage you to assist with props and costumes for the musical, if you can. We will be working on these areas all day, following morning assembly. All are welcome who can help. We will be working in the cafeteria. Thank you.

Dear Parents,

The Lindner photography group is starting the spring photo season. If you haven’t had a chance to order your child’s fall season photos, please log on by using the link and password distributed by the school in the fall.

If for some reason you don’t have a link and password, please email the studio directly and we will provide the information necessary to access your child’s photos. Please provide us with the school name and home room teacher’s name.

Thank you.

The Lindner photography group
