THE PARALLEL POST

Build Season Weeks 2, 3, 4
Friday, February 1st, 2019

10 Year Anniversary

2019 marks ten years since our team's reformation! After dissolving for two seasons, the team was brought back to life under new mentorship. To commemorate the decade the team's gone through since, this year's team shirt will feature a "Parallel Universary" theme, including the graphic on the left made by our design subteam (WIP). A timeline of the team can be found at our website.

Cutting Steel for Climber

In the video on the right (click the image or here to watch), our build team used an angle grinder to cut steel parts. The steel will form a mount for our pneumatic climbing mechanism. Make sure to visit the team at competition (details below in "Upcoming Events") to see it in action! More videos here and here.

Cargo Intake

Our build subteam has completed constructing the major components of the robot, including the cargo intake. To see the intake in action, click the picture on the left. More videos can be found here and here.

Scouting App

Our strategy subteam has finished a scouting app, shown on the right, that will be used at competition to collect data on other teams' robots. Six scouts at a time will be using this app on tablets, each watching a robot on the field. The data will be used to make more informed decisions when talking to other teams about cooperating during alliance selections. To see an enlarged version of the picture on the right, click here.

Family Sponsorships

This year, we are continuing last year's initiative of providing a free T-shirt to each student. Although it costs the team more, we believe it is important to ensure that everyone will be able to attend competition representing Team 1257. Family donations make these purchases that help members of the team, such as these free T-shirts, possible. Families who donate a certain amount will be displayed on the back of next year's team shirts to show our appreciation for their contribution. If you would like to donate to help us with this initiative, please contact the team at business1257@ucvts.org. For more information about sponsorship levels, view this link.

On January 5th, this past Saturday, members of Team 1257 gathered in the Magnet High School auditorium for the 2019 season game reveal. The game, FIRST® Destination: Deep Space, is space-themed and revolves around the placement of kickballs called "cargo" and discs called "hatch panels" on structures representing rockets and cargo ships. The game animation can be found here, and the manual can be found here. After the game reveal, we spent time reading the game manual and rules to determine our build strategy and more in a following strategy session.
