Aim High with your Arrows
By Reginald Bullard
“And Dad, this is my office with a great view of the city.” These were the words of my oldest who recently took me on a tour of her building since her move after college. A FAR move away from her parents to say the least, but all I could say is that the favor of God has been with her every step of the way. She is pursuing the dream that she worked so hard for as an undergraduate student. There have been bumps in the road such as her first car accident (someone slid into her), the extreme winter weather conditions, and navigating a corporate environment, but God has been with her every step of the way.
I’m reminded of a portion of Psalms 127 that states, “Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. 5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.”When we think of arrows, we expect them to go far and be effective. We didn’t realize that our daughter would be closer to the Canadian border in her first move, but we trusted God and realized that this was a place where God would do a great work. It’s even more comforting when our kids are cognizant of who God is for themselves. Our plans for her (even moving to a warmer climate) have changed, and yet God continues to show His plan for our children to prosper and have a future.
Later in the summer, I sat in the car traveling across the country with our recently graduated son. It marked another opportunity, potentially far away. I still believe the words of Psalm 127 and I trust God. While I realize that many kids are not able to leave the nest for any number of reasons, my challenge is that you trust God to lead them on their next journey. May God bless your arrows.
