Thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties, residents of The Set in Delray Beach can call up Community Greening to request a free fruit or Florida native tree for their yard. Not only does this grant address the low tree canopy (18%) in this neighborhood, it provides trees that will give fresh fruit to residents for years to come. CG Tree Steward and resident of The Set, Dre Dildy, is having a great time with this project, building relationships in the neighborhood where he lives, sharing stories about trees and history, and hearing all the delicious ways the recipients plan on using their fruit. Trees planted include soursop, avocado, sugar apple, guava, gumbo limbo and paradisetree. If you live in NW and SW neighborhoods of Delray Beach, email us for your free tree before we run out.  We'll come to your house for species and site selection, arrange call-before-you-dig, and deliver your tree to plant it with you!

It was a perfect day at Grandview Public Market to giveaway 200 fruit and Florida native trees. We teamed up with the City of West Palm Beach Mayor's Office of Sustainability to provide residents with guavas, sugar apples, jackfruit, dahoon holly, slash pine, live oak, wild tamarind....and on and on and on. People were stoked to take home their new babies. Thank you Grandview Public Market for hosting us and Del Pelson for providing the live music and serenading our trees.  Looking forward to the next one in April!

We're all fortunate to have Farmer Jay working in South Florida. He is tirelessly advocating, teaching and building a new food system in backyards, schoolyards and businesses.  He's so passionate about it he inspires others along the way.  Most importantly, he's great with kids and teaching them to "grow your own". Thank you for volunteering your time and talents to install the irrigation at our Community Grove.

"At the very forefront of my own career, it is always the aspect of teaching the next generation that stands out to me as the single most important thing in my life. Being part of Community Greening lends itself to additional community outreach by teaching our local kids the importance of growing their own food and increasing the Tree Canopy in otherwise dead zones. The first project we worked on together in East Delray was a good size patch of land right smack in the middle of a community that was basically used for dumping. We cleaned the area up of all the debris to get it ready for what would soon become a community orchard. The beauty that quickly revealed itself, was the fact that all the local volunteers ranged from 5 & 6 year olds to grandparents, bridging the gap between the ages due to their equal excitement about the beautification of this once 'eye-sore'.  CG through donations and grants, also helps to support kids programming over summer with my company Farmer Jay Pure Organics. Together we help kids learn about where their food comes from and the importance of good nutrition for healthy living. I honestly can't say enough about the impact I believe CG has had on our community. Not only are they increasing the Tree Canopy but beautifying the pockets of forgotten land right in our own neighborhoods, that we often drive right by with out a second thought. They are bringing life and pride to communities that needed it most and this in turn is bringing the community together. CG should take over the world, making it a better place one neighborhood at a time." -  Farmer Jay, Organic Farmer & Educator

I can't think of many people who love trees more than Dr. Craig Spodak.  His passion for trees is infectious mainly because he walks the talk.  Not only does his Gold LEED certified dental office have hundreds of Florida native trees on the property, he incorporated a large live oak into the design of his own house. Thank you Spodak Dental for sponsoring our work, encouraging us from the beginning, and having a tree-loving staff. We look forward to planting with you in January! "I’m so proud to be working alongside Community Greening. At our office, we went above and beyond to plant far more trees than were required because we recognized the myriad of benefits that having a tree canopy provides. The fact that we can partner with another organization to help the community at large makes us all very happy." - Dr. Craig Spodak
