"COME GET YOUR TREES! NOW HONK YOUR HORN!"
The community kicked off the City of Delray Beach's Tree Planting Program in style with a Tree Giveaway at Catherine Strong Splash Park. DJ SoNyce was on fire with the beats while we put 200 trees in the trunks of cars with the help of volunteers from Atlantic High School IB ProgramYou could hear the honking of the excited treecipients from blocks away as they lined up for fruit and native trees. The mood was high and extra positive as people are ready to get back to working together and improving the community. If you missed it, our next tree giveaway for the City of Delray Beach's 10,000 trees campaign is at Pompey Park on Halloween.  Let's go!
DELRAY MORNING LIVE
Dondre McCrary (Community Forester) and Matt Shipley (Co-Director) went on Delray Morning Live to share the good green word. Dondre told the watchers at home about our big Impact 100 win and his role as the Community Tree Champion to promote trees with residents and youth. Matt told the crowd about the City of Delray Beach setting the pace with a city-wide tree planting program to increase the tree canopy. If you see us out planting, weeding, mulching, and pruning, honk your horn or stop by to say hello.  We are very thankful to be staying busy and making a lasting investment in our community for years to come. Thank you to the Greater Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce for giving us this platform. Click here to watch the video
YOUTH TREE TEAM: IN THEIR WORDS

"This summer, I learned how to properly prune and name a couple of trees. Get ready to get dirty and sweaty and be able to communicate with your team" – Ford, age 18

"This is a way of new learning and new opportunities. They work with a lot of people and make great connections that I can later use. I think it’s really good to help others and the environment" – Aiayana, age 16

"This is a second family to me, a place I can come to when I need help, and I also like that we give back to the community"     – Prince, age 16

4,000 TREES PLANTED. JUST GETTING STARTED.

Four years after starting Community Greening to engage the community to plant and care for trees, we planted our 4,000th tree in the Heart of Boynton Beach. To celebrate, we planted a Day Avocado named "Hira" by Mrs. Evans and her daughter. The 4,000 trees planted will provide more than $2 million of eco-benefits to the residents of South Florida, including an estimated $1 million in energy reduced, $1 million in air quality improved and $2 million in stormwater filtered.  Check out all 4,000 trees in our TreePlotter database. If you would like a tree, we are partnering with the City of Boynton Beach to celebrate the City's centennial by giving away 100 fruit trees at Sara Sims Park on September 12 (10AM).
REDLINING AND TREE CANOPY: How Decades of Racist Housing Policy Left Neighborhoods Sweltering
PARTNER APPRECIATION

The City of Delray Beach Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with Community Greening since our founding in August 2016. Together we have planted hundreds of trees with volunteers in our public parks that will benefit residents for decades to come. Whether its the South Florida slash pines in Barwick Park, to the green buttonwoods at Anchor Park, to the live oaks at Orchard View Park, these trees are growing fast and adding tree canopy to our city. Tree plantings are immersing children and families in nature and promoting the many benefits of spending time in our public parks. We would not be able to have the same impact without a healthy relationship and the ongoing support of our Parks Department. Thank you.
MEET A TREE

"Community Greening is an AMAZING blessing to the communities they serve! I submitted an email inquiry about their tree planting program and within a week received a response. One week later they were in our backyard planting 2 beautiful shade trees just in time for us to dedicate them to our youngest daughter for her 7th birthday."
