The Penner family spent Thanksgiving together in Tennessee! Jesse's sister Christy moved there, so they took a plane ride. During the visit, they attended Aaron and Christy’s church, went to Charlie Daniels Park, walked the trails near where they live and even played games at their house. They also went to Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga (a pivotal site in the Civil War), which had stunning views and a spot where you could see seven states at one time!
A trip to the Lost Sea Adventure (a massive cave system with an underground lake) was also on the docket. The cave was a Native American meeting spot and then used again heavily throughout the Civil War and even served as an underground pub at one point.
During a visit to the Grand Ole Opry, they experienced country music with new and seasoned artists performing live. At Opry Land Ice, they saw massive ice sculptures in a room set at freezing temperatures, as well as ice skated and saw a bunch of Christmas lights. Last, but certainly not least, they ate a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner and enjoyed the company of family.
5 Reasons Homeownership Makes ‘Cents’
Owning a home has always been the "American Dream." Following a few lows in the cycle, U.S. home ownership is again on the rise. Buyers have different reasons for wanting to own a home, but there are many similarities. A handful of these have significant financial incentives, which will be looked at here.
1. Homeownership is a form of forced savings
By paying your mortgage you build equity in your home that can be used down the road for items such as renovations, sending a child to college or even paying off high-interest credit card debt. By renting, you only guarantee that your landlord is the one with the equity.
2. Homeownership provides tax savings
Owning a home can offer several tax advantages. In fact, you may be able to deduct mortgage interest, property tax and even profits from selling your home on your taxes. Check with your tax preparer or account to see what advantages apply to your area.
3. Homeownership locks in your monthly housing cost
With a fixed-rate mortgage, you lock in your monthly housing cost for the next five, 10 or 30 years. The interest rate/cost you pay will remain the same, while the value of your house rises with inflation.
4. Buying a home is cheaper than renting
According to a recent report from Trulia, it is around 37% less expensive to buy a home that it is to rent. That number varies across the country. For example, it is 6% cheaper to buy a home in San Jose, Calif., versus renting, while it is 57% cheaper to buy a home versus renting in Detroit, Mich.
5. No other investment lets you live inside of it
There are countless places you can invest your money, whether the stock market or other commodities, but you will always need somewhere to live. By owning a home, you will have peace of mind knowing that your investment is gaining value, while also providing you a safe place to live.
The Bottom Line
Before you sign another, let's get together to help you better understand all of your options and the benefits of owning your own home.
