Winter 2017 Timber Tidbits
View this email in your browser
Winter is bringing us alternating days of blue skies and warm
temperatures with gray skies and cold days, but the shop is
toasty and dry so we're working away. Site delays due to
weather are to be expected in winter and we won't complain!

Here's a look at what we've been working on lately.
Enjoy!

The MoreSun Team
Lake House
Nearing completion, we crafted multiple Douglas Fir timber features for this lake front home.  The main floor timber framed great room is highlighted by hammer beam trusses and curved second-floor interior balconies. The kitchen and master bedroom are also timber-framed.  Outside timber frames include a wrap around ground level porch and four upper exterior balconies. We look forward to seeing this beautiful home finished!
Hand-Hewn Timber Frame Trusses
Working with antique, hand-hewn timbers requires different timber framing methods than those used on freshly milled and planed wood. These trusses went to Texas for installation and were an interesting, out of the ordinary project for us. You can see more of this project on our website.
Moving Day!
Originally built and raised at an event venue, this timber frame needed a new home. We helped the owners find a buyer and deconstructed the pavilion.
A few weeks later we raised the pavilion at its new location, right before it snowed.
Face Lift
If you love your house but not its facade, then this project will give you food for thought! We're transforming the exterior of this home with timber framed porches, gables, trim and more. Even the garage got some attention. Check back in spring to see the completed project along with before and after pictures.
Community Center Pavilion
We were happy to help make part of our local community center's vision a reality. The center's location right next door to our timber frame shop made the commute to the job site pretty convenient. Come spring it will be nice to look out and see folks enjoying picnics in the pavilion!

Our loss is West Virginia's gain....
We were sorry to see Jeremy Sanders leave MoreSun. However, we're happy for him and his wife, Jenny, as they start a new chapter in their lives. We know two things for sure: he'll be an asset where ever he works, and they will be back to visit and go boating on the Chattooga River!
Timber Framers Guild
If you're interested in all things timber frame, a good source of valuable information is the Timber Framers Guild. Whether you're in the business, a related business, a woodworker, or a lover of fine crafts, you can join the TFG and reap the many benefits of membership. Check it out at tfguild.org/join! This walking bridge is s a project under consideration for building at the TFG conference in Madison, WI this spring.
