The Makery has moved!
(And lots of other exciting new things...)
The Makery Matters - February 2018 Newsletter
We are so excited to announce that The Makery has officially moved to its new location at 206 North Bullard! This move will allow us more room for workshops, as well as the ability to expand some of our offerings and introduce some exciting new creative opportunities for our community. We’ll reveal these changes in the next month or two, so keep an eye on our newsletter, check in at our website at www.makerysvc.com, and follow us on Facebook. And read below for information on our Relocation Celebration, happening on Saturday, February 17!

In the midst of our move, we have still been preparing for lots of fun workshops this session. Be sure to check them out here in our newsletter or online so you don’t miss your chance to try something new and have a little fun down at The Makery! We hope you will think of The Makery as your creative space (where we do all the set up and clean up for you!). Come visit us soon.

Here’s what you’ll find in this month’s The Makery Matters:

Relocation Celebration, Saturday, February 17
Walk In Whenever & Weave
Creative Workshops Coming Up Soon!
Join Us for Our Relocation Celebration—Saturday, February 17

We are happy to announce that The Makery has moved to 206 N. Bullard Street. This larger and more accessible space will allow us expanded room for workshops, as well as for some other fun creative endeavors that we’ll announce in the coming weeks.

We are so pleased with how our new space is coming along. There are still some finishing touches that we’ll work on in the next week or two, but we’re largely moved in at this point, and we want to share the product of our labor with you! So...

Come check out our new space and help us celebrate at our Relocation Celebration on Saturday, February 17, anytime between 10 and 6. We’ll have some yummy treats (from our new neighbor, HoneeBeeGoods!) and you can get a sneak peek of the fun new things we’ll be up to in the coming months. (Hint—there’s a lot!) We’re also offering 10% off any one workshop registration completed in-store during our Celebration, and you can enter our drawing for one free DIY Bar project. (And come see what, exactly DIY Bar is!)

We’ll also have a loom set up for you all to help us create a special Makery Community weaving to commemorate our move and christen our new space. When completed, it will hang proudly next to our similar weaving from our Grand Opening in 2016. So be sure to stop by and add your personality to the piece with a few rows of no rules, no mistakes weaving!

Would you help us spread the word about our move? Forward this email to people you know who might be interested in what we do, and let people you talk to about The Makery (or anything to do with fiber arts, paper arts, surface design, bookbinding, or weaving) know. We greatly appreciate it!

We look forward with joy to all the possibility that our new location brings. Come see for yourself and join us for some good, creative fun!

First Exciting Change for Our New Space:
Walk In Whenever & Weave!

The first of many changes we are happy to announce for our new space is our new Walk In Whenever & Weave. Previously, you have only had the option to weave during three specific times a week. With our move and our expanded space, we are going to offer Walk In & Weave whenever we are open (starting no later than two hours before closing on any day).

During Walk In & Weave, we have already done the hardest part of weaving—warping, or setting up, the loom—and you get to come in and do the funnest part, the actual weaving! Come in and choose from any of our beautiful assortment of yarns—and don’t forget the treasure baskets!—and sit and weave for two hours or more. It takes about 5-10 minutes of instruction to get you started, and we can teach you any of the freestyle weaving techniques found hanging on the samplers in our studio, too! At the end, you’ll take your piece home, or perhaps you’ll choose to leave your piece on the loom and come back soon to finish a longer piece. (You can leave your piece on the loom for up to three days, subject to availability.)

Walk In & Weave will be offered for a minimum period of two hours (the length of time we have found necessary to get a decent-sized piece woven) for $20, plus $2 an ounce for your piece when we take it off the loom. (Your first introductory session is $15 for two hours, plus $2 an ounce.) Each half an hour (full or partial) after that will be an additional $5. Except for your introductory session, this includes weaving time only; the time it takes to finish your piece (cut it off the loom, tie knots or make fringe, etc.) is not included in your weaving time, and is complementary. (Your Introductory Session does include time set aside for instruction on how to finish your weaving. However, you may add additional weaving time on, by the half-hour increment, as above, but we will reserve the last 15 minutes for finishing instructions.)

Soon, we’ll also begin offering a Weaving Rewards system, to give you discounts on multiple Walk In & Weave visits. Watch for more information coming soon!

Some details:

  • Be sure to come in to weave at least two hours before our closing time on any day we are open (currently Sunday, Monday, Thursday, 11 to 4; Friday & Saturday, 10 to 6).

  • Reservations are not required, but if you want to be sure a loom is available, you can always call or email us to have a loom or looms reserved for you and your friends.

  • We will still offer Kids’ Weaving at our set times (Thursdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. during the school year; from 10 to 11:30 a.m. during the summer) at $15 total ($5 per extra full or partial 1/2 hour). Kids weaving at any other times will follow the regular Walk In Whenever & Weave guidelines.

  • As usual, sewing or warping instruction is also available, but is treated separately from Walk In & Weave, as it requires a set appointment and more intensive instruction than weaving. See our website for more information.

  • We’ll offer Walk In Whenever & Weave on a trial basis to start out. If everything runs smoothly, we’ll make this change permanent.

  • Keep in mind that Walk In Whenever & Weave is subject to availability. If there are no looms available, or if we are conducting or preparing for a weaving workshop, Walk In Whenever & Weave will not be possible.
