It's been a roller coaster winter so far.

Pueblo and much of Southeastern Colorado has gone through cycles of warm and cold this winter. We had a blast of snow last week, but mild temperatures have returned. Winter is far from over, but the sun and warm weather has many already planning for spring gardening and summer farm stands and farmers markets.

Heroes Gardens progress is growing!

At the end of December LocalFood Pueblo (LFP) learned that is to be awarded a grant from the Colorado Garden Foundation by way of its parent nonprofit NeighborWorks of Pueblo to support Heroes Gardens in Pueblo schools. Also in December we received a donation of seeds from Farm Direct Organic Seed for Heroes Gardens. LFP is finalizing Heroes Garden sponsorship levels for local business to support Heroes Gardens as well. Finally, a few schools may soon need some help from somebody that has basic video capturing/editing equipment and skills. If you might be able to help, please email LFP at

Community Gardens survey status update

We've been mostly silent about this in 2016, but another one of our projects has been to survey the existing school and community gardens in Pueblo. We have received responses from a dozen thus far and are awaiting responses from another dozen or so. It would seem that garden leaders have gone into hibernation for the winter. Maybe now that the holidays are over we can awaken them from their slumber. If anybody knows of a community garden leader who has not completed our survey, please give them the following link or have them contact us via email at or phone at 719-423-4642:

Reminder about the LocalFood Mobile App

Very soon we will begin working with students and staff at the Hasan School of Business at Colorado State University-Pueblo to build the mobile and web app that will make finding local food in Pueblo easy! At this time we do not have a date when the app will be available to the public, but we hope to have something by June 2017. Also, our end of the year fundraiser raised $745 to go toward development of the App. Thanks again to everybody who pitched in and spread the word!
