PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

Dear Friends

As the summer winds down and the excessive heat finally starts to lesson, we begin preparing for our upcoming teaching schedule.

RCMTG is preparing a wonderful series of programs that the membership will find most interesting. We hope you will take full advantage of coming to these programs because they be most beneficial to all of our music teachers.

Recently, I attended a memorial service for Ed Simons which was very moving. A series of slides and videos were shown from a young man to his incredible long life. Many people told amazing stories. His daughter sang and read excerpts from her book about him including many funny stories, and two of his grandchildren performed beautifully.

Lastly, my wife and I will be hosting the Fall Fanfare at our home on Sunday ,Sept. 23rd at 4:00 PM. There will be fine food and drinks, and you are invited to bring your instruments, but mostly to meet and greet in a warm social setting. Hope to see you then.

Susie Covello

One of our most dedicated members, Susie Covello, passed away on July 22nd. She taught beginner-intermediate piano to generations of lucky children. She was also devoted to the Guild, never failing to come to meetings, social events (always with a "Pie Lady" pie), and volunteer in myriad ways over the years.
She was a true original.

Nearly everyone had a story about Susie and so in that spirit, I am initiating this year a column called "Susie Stories" - please feel free to send yours to me. I already have 4 or 5 to get us started - I'll keep publishing them as long as they keep coming in. Susie, we are going to miss your take on the world, your humor and optimism.

SUSIE STORY #1

Not that long ago, she said to me: "Y'know, if they're gonna send some people to Mars, send those people with their noses buried in their phones. They'll never miss Earth!"

It seemed she was of the last remaining individuals who saw the world from the ground up.
