PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Hope this finds everyone well and busy with their teaching and performing schedules.

When you read this, the Fall Fanfare will have already taken place. Thank you all, for getting back to me. So many of you wanted to come but had prior commitments.

Remember, on Nov.4th the Helping Hands organization is having a dinner at Town and Country Caterers and they are looking for student performers to play or sing. (All instruments)

Please contact Kathy Lathrop at lathropkathleen@gmail.com if you would like to submit some students.

This is a great opportunity for your students to perform.

Lastly, the board has put together some wonderful programs for 2018-2019 that I hope you really take advantage of. The guild exists to serve its members.

With best wishes,

Steve

SUSIE STORY #2

She was funny!  I remember her telling me years ago that she was raising her lesson rates according to inflation to (can’t remember exactly) but something like $30.28 per half hour! I imagined her doling out 72 cents change to students...  And last year I taught a comedy Improvisation class at the New City Library and she showed up and joined in with enthusiasm although her hearing (hearing aids left at home) made it challenging for her to get all the ‘rules’.  As I remember, she surprised us all by being a convincing dog!  - Bette Glenn

Welcome New Member Dr. Elaina Burns!

Pianist Dr. Elaina Burns is an active soloist, chamber musician, and teacher based in Pearl River, New York. A registered yoga teacher and member of the Performing Arts Medicine Association, her primary area of research is the impact of meditation and mind-body alignment on performing artists. Burns is founder and director of Resonance: Mind-Body-Music, a piano and yoga studio dedicated to the creative and healing arts. Dr. Burns will be presenting our November program: "Aligning Mind and Body In Artistic Performance". She is also assisting with Music Marathon in December.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
Dear Pianists, Please see below for some broad details of an opportunity in New City, NY for you or any colleagues/students you can think of!

For more information, including stipend, please contact their Parish Administrator at 845-634-3601, or email at stjohns365@optonline.net.

A little about the position: This congregation has a nice pipe organ, but they are also used to singing with the piano. A small choir [6-8] is there, and often a singer from the congregation will sing something for the Offertory. An accompanist with keyboard skill would work well and most of the vocalists will be congregational.
