January 2019

Happy New Year to one and all! 2019 has just started but we are already hard at work, planting and sowing to keep Gamble blooming throughout the year. The Dirty Knees Brigade, our intrepid group of volunteer gardeners, teamed up with the Gamble Staff to plant tulip bulbs in containers and in the ground. Later, armed with big and small clippers, they headed to the Rose Garden to prune the Iceberg Roses to about 2 feet tall. We appreciate their hard work and can't wait to see the results! If you would like to volunteer with the Dirty Knees Brigade, please email

Photography tips at Gamble

Travis Watts photographyEveryone likes making New Years Resolutions, and we hope that one of yours will be to spend more time at Gamble Garden. Whether you come to learn about gardening, admire the scenery, or photograph your loved ones, we welcome you with open arms.

Gamble certainly makes a pretty backdrop for portraits, and photographer Travis Watts has a great tip for using Gamble's beauty to enhance photos. Travis specializes in wedding, family, maternity, and newborn photography, and he photographs several sessions a year at Gamble.

One technique that Travis likes to use when photographing at Gamble is to highlight leading lines of available architecture. Leading lines are visual lines in a photo that lead the eye from one point in the image to another. Examples of architectural leading lines at Gamble include the French Patio Doors in the Carriage House, the pathways around the Garden, the roofline of Gamble House, and Gamble's distinctive green fence.
