Happy New Year everyone!
The Yacht Club Board has been very busy planning for the 2017 season. We've got a great set of events planned and our first is the "Winter Social" on March 11, so mark your calendars now. This will be a great chance for us to get together and a share a good time.
There are lots of activities being planned and worked on by committees now that could use your help. I encourage everyone to reach out and volunteer your time. Even small tasks can make a big difference.
I'm looking forward to a great year!
Andy Wood,
Commodore, CRYC

This year our Sailing Camps will be run by the YMCA.  Camps will still be held at Ship Point throughout the summer and most of our sailing instructors will return from previous years.  But all the organization, marketing and transportation of students to and from Ship Point on a daily basis will be handled by the YMCA.  Watch for more information as Summer approaches!

>Race Committee
John Foster and Art Silcox

Want to learn more about race committees so you are more knowledgeable when volunteering at race events in the future?

On March 4, there will be a seminar for those wanting to learn more about race management at the Miles River Yacht Club. It is a prerequisite for becoming a certified PRO (Principle Race Officer). We will sponsor three members who would like to attend!

On February 11 - 12, there will be an advanced training seminar for PROs at the Eastport Yacht Club.

Please contact John Foster at for more information about these training opportunities.

>Building and Grounds Committee
Mike Hollis and Mike Sipes

If you visit during the off season please continue to pack out your trash – there is no trash service.

Boat Racks: Thank you to Mike Whitehill for taking lead and John Harper for volunteering to build additional boat racks. Our intent is to build two racks (one for club boats, one for privately owned boats) with the possibility of adding a third for the Opti fleet. Additional helping hands are still welcome. If you have thoughts on desired features or capabilities our new racks should have please provide to Mike Hollis ( by 31 Jan.
Comet 3561: Bob Gerber and Mike Hollis are still seeking one or two additional hands (and a decent day) to strip comet 3561. Only common sense and a few hand tools are required.  When relaunched, this boat will serve the sailing school and can also be used to introduce interested members to the Comet. Please contact Mike at 703-692-4380 or 410-801-6339.

Boat Donations: In order to expand offerings for members and the sailing school the club is seeking donations of the following items in good shape:
  • 2 rowboats
  • 6 kayaks
  • 2 canoes
  • oars, paddles, life jackets, anchors and line would be appreciated too
Contact any club officer to have your potential donation assessed.

Fencing: The Club is seeking an individual to install approximately 15 feet of fencing to prevent vehicles from driving behind the bush line and into the leech field (and possibly collapsing it).  As with most projects you’ll get materials and guidance as needed so little experience is required.  If you can use a post- hole digger and / or sledge hammer you can be a fence expert.  Contact:
