Hello CRYC members,

I want to start with a personal thank you to everyone who came out to the Boat Work Party on Saturday May 5th. We had a very good turn out with myself, Fitz Turner, Dan & Temple Worth, Paul Kelsch, Pete Jayne, Steve Geiser, Ridgely Kelly, and brand new members Tom & Margo Vuicich attending. We got a tremendous amount accomplished in a short time to include waxing the hulls of the 420's, cleaning the optis and checking their rigs, and getting the two whaler safety boat engines running. I will be sending an announcement for one more boat work party for Sunday June 3rd, so look for that announcement. During that event we should clean the interior of the 420s, rig them, and get them moved to the floating docks.

CRYC now has policies for pavilion reservations, wedding events, campfire rules, and boat checkout. These will be posted on the CRYC webpage here.

The Board has been busy this Spring with projects this year. So far we've added a cabinet in the storage room for containing electronics and a key storage box as well. Plans are underway to replace the refrigerator with a conventional upper refrigerator and lower freezer section vice a side-by-side. This should give us more room for perishable items. We have relocated the large storage box to the rear of the pavilion for holding our large tents. We have new saw horses for the Optis, which also serve as extra bench seating for the end of our picnic tables. We recently purchased 8 new Adirondack chairs for member use around the Club. And finally, the weather station plan is coming together and we hope to have that finished soon.

Lastly, the CRYC Laser Fleet if being rejuvenated. Thanks to the efforts of Pete Jayne who has refurbished the green and red laser hulls, we are well on our way to making these boats usable again. Through the Corsica River Foundation, we are applying grant funds to refurbish their dollies and buy new practice sails, which are now on order. Lastly, we have added one more laser to the fleet that was recently donated by Charlie Roth. Thank you Charlie!  Maybe we should look ahead to some evening Laser sailing at the Club.

Well thats about it, so I will see you all around the Club!

Please maintain the speed limit.
The club has no trash service - Please pack out your trash

Trailored boats:  If you are an owner of a boat or trailer in the shrub line please identify yourself and tell us that you intend to either remove or maintain the item.   If you intend to keep the item please move it back into the shrub line (now mowed).  Ensure that you are to the left of the pavilion and utilities hump behind the pavilion or you will collapse the drainage field.  Any item that is not in the shrub line by October closing will be disposed of by the club as best see fit.  Anything stored in the shrub line needs to be maintained and registered with the club.

Speed Limit: We have now posted speed limit signs along the access road.  Please observe the posted speed limit and feel free to encourage others to observe it too.  You are all now deputized.
Floating Dock – pending warmer water to complete repairs
Old Gunston Dock – pending determination of whether it is feasible to rebuild
Storage room reorganization – pending new door lock and interested stakeholder

Note:  Board members Joe Della Barba and Steve Geiser visited the grounds on May 13, the day following a big thunderstorm. The property fared pretty well.  Chairs had blown around and one or two were damaged.  A boat in the shrub line was capsized and Joe and Steve righted her.  They worked on the water heater, PA system, VHF system, and storage room.

CRYC and YMCA now have a signed MOU for 2018. Woody Granger will be training four sailing instructors (all are sailors from Gunston School).  Plans are for 6 weeks of sailing camp, 5 weeks of kayaking camp, and 12 weeks of out posting camp.

Camp registration for summer is now available on the YMCA of the Chesapeake website. CRYC has updated its Junior Sailing website with important information for 2018 camps and an easy to get to link to register. Please visit our junior website to learn more.

On 5-May,10 members worked together to prepare boats for sailing camp and other use this summer. Optis are mostly ready with minor follow-up work needed. 420's need more work to be ready. Another boat party will be held on Sunday June 3rd. Please look for the announcement and plan to participate.
