If you participate in the local art scene, you probably know former Board President and current Director, Lisa Fulmer. Fortunately for CAA, Lisa agreed to stay on the board after her multiple terms as president. She plays a key role in many of our Community Outreach efforts such as the classes for Wren Elementary and presentations on Concord Live! Lisa also writes most of our blogs, manages email for the Board, writes articles for the CAA Facebook page, and helps out on
other projects whenever she can grab time from her busy schedule as an independent marketing consultant.
Lisa grew up in a family where volunteering was part of every-day life. Her parents volunteered with the Special Olympics, the local Art League, and Boy Scouts. Their example created Lisa's life-long commitment to volunteer service in the community. Besides her work with CAA, Lisa has worked with the Neto Community Network, first as a volunteer and currently as a project manager for the effort to assume the tenancy of the Don Fernando Pacheco Adobe in Concord.
The influencers in Lisa's childhood were all creative people. Her mother was an artist, father a skilled DIYer, and godparents, lapidaries and jewelry makers. As a career marketeer, Lisa has worked for commercial paper companies, craft publishers, and art materials manufacturers. Along the way, Lisa developed skills in designing, creating and teaching art and craft projects. Lisa has authored two craft tutorial books and taught many workshops for artists and crafters in the area. Currently she is teaching an online art journaling class for the City of Concord.
With Lisa's background and skill set, she is an invaluable member of the CAA team.

CAA Teaches Kid's Art Classes
CAA has partnered with the Wren Avenue Elementary School PTA to bring a new online art class to their students each month for the whole school year. CAA members who are set up to conduct online Zoom demos and who enjoy teaching K-5 children are encouraged to contact us and join in the fun!
Inspired by the Dia de los Muertos holiday, Lisa Fulmer shared how to turn a paper gift box into a shadowbox frame to display an ancestor’s photo and trinkets for the October class. Everyone decorated their frame with brightly colored markers and hand-cut confetti. “My grandmother died from cancer when I was little so I never got to meet her. I’m putting her photo in my frame because I wish I could have known her,” said one young student.
John Nakanishi will teach the November class and show the kids how to paint-stamp patterns on paper, then collage the papers into whimsical autumn leaves for holiday table decorations.

Happy November Plein Air Artists!
November is the month that reminds us to be thankful for the many positive things happening in our life! One of those positive things are the bonus November and December Virtual Plein Air Outings! Usually, our Plein Air Outings run each year from March through October.  However, since these are virtual outings, we get to travel and paint all year long, yippee!
This month, we're headed to the glorious National parks in Arizona and Utah -- Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Monument Valley, Canyonlands, and Zion. Click here to see lots of folders filled with inspiring photos - what will you pick to paint?
November is the last month of autumn, but the beginning of new adventures! Make everyday a day of Thanksgiving!

Raising Money for CAA!
Your membership in CAA supports our monthly Guest Artist program. The art education provided by guest artists has long been a member benefit. Because CAA is now a 501c3 non-profit organization we also conduct Community Art Outreach to residents in central Contra Costa County. Programs such as Teacher Grants, Art Camp at Monument Crisis Center, and craft demos on Concord Live! are funded by donations including our monthly raffle. Help support our programs for 2021 by participating in the raffle or donating through the CAA website!
