Today is the final day of Air Cargo Africa. We had the chance to attend the cargo exhibition in Johannesburg together with Brussels Airport, Nallian and ACL Airshop at the Brussels Airport booth.
Share your BRUcargo pictures with us! Each week we'll pick one and share them in our Gazette.

Welcome to our newest member

We are happy to announce a new membership. EZ Cargo recently joined our community organisation.

EZ Cargo was funded in 2016 by Nicolas Simons. After working for several years in the air freight industry, he decided to launch his company in Belgium.

Their mission and focus is to bring deep expertise and bold vision to international freight forwarders facing complex logistic challenges.

EZ Cargo staff is composed of 20 competitive people working daily with a fair number of clients, located in Europe, US, and Asia.

Their logistics-savvy team strives to offer flexible, creative, and cost-effective solutions.

A warm welcome! We look forward to working together!

ECS/2 - friendly reminder

By attached letter (in Dutch), customs want to draw your attention on ECS/2 for:
  1. Return shipments from GHA to agent
  2. Receiving ‘Confirmation Handling’ messages via e-mail

  1. Return shipments from GHA to agent
In a communication at the beginning of 2022, customs and ACB already informed you about the way Transfers from GHAs to agents in case shipments need to return, should be handled.

Customs wants to remind you on the way of working.
If a Transfer is being sent from a GHA to an agent, agents should be able to accept the Transfer by a Confirmation Handling message.
Only then, the goods are back under the responsibility of the agent and it will become possible to move on with the goods.

Technical specifications of this message are available here: Actueel | FOD Financiën (belgium.be)
  1. Receiving ‘Confirmation Handling’ messages via e-mail
Agents that want to get a copy of the Confirmation Handling (the follow-up message GHAs are sending to customs as an acceptance of the Transfer), are offering this possibility via e-mail.
To receive a copy of these messages, agents should deliver an e-mail address together with the company name and EORI-number to thomas.van.asch@aircargobelgium.be before 28/02/2023.
Be aware that the e-mail addresses will be uploaded in bulk in PLDA, there will not be offered the possibility to upload an additional e-mail address after 28/02/2023.

In case of questions, do not hesitate to contact Klara Pasgang: klara.pasgang@minfin.fed.be.

After a career spanning more than 37 years, Marc Bogaerts will be leaving BRUcargo next week to enjoy his well-deserved retirement. With this interview, we would like to thank him for his work and wish him all the best in the future.
A career of how many years have you had on it?
I started in 1985 at Belgavia, the predecessor of Aviapartner, first as export clerk, later as information systems officer. In 2000, I moved to Deutsche Post, where I worked for eight months. Then I was asked to return to work for the airport, first via Switch and, since its privatisation in 2004, IT was integrated into the then BIAC, which is now BAC.
What is the best moment you have experienced here at BRUcargo?
There have been several great moments. One of them is definitely the automation of cargo. The fact that someone on the other side of the world prepares an airway bill and you see it on your screen here a few seconds later is quite special.
But there have certainly also been less wonderful moments during the job. In my job, I sometimes had to serve as arbitrator and that is not always pleasant.

What aspect of your job are you going to miss the most?
Nothing special. I had a good time here, will leave with tons of good memories, but missing something ?  I don’t think so. Otherwise, I would have stayed working here ofcourse. In a few weeks, I will let go of my work and enjoy my free time.

What does the future hold for you?
I have always worked in on-call positions, which always limited my schedules or made my weekend suddenly look very different than expected. Now I am going to enjoy having time and being able to set my own schedule. I have 6 grandchildren, with whom I will definitely spend time. Besides, I used to sail. I am looking forward to going on sailing trips soon.

How will you say goodbye to BRUcargo?
The first day I started here, I went into an empty 'Jumbo' (also known as 747). I was then surprised by how small that looks inside. On my last day, I would like to hand over my keys and stand in an empty Jumbo one last time.
