Information & Advice to Help YOU Move Forward This Month

Is Applying for Multiple Positions at the Same Company a Good Idea or a Bad One?

As a career coach, I always cringe when I hear a client is applying for multiple jobs within the same company. Apparently, I am not alone. In a recent article by Lindsay Tigar, Recruiters reveal the qualities that are an instant ‘no’ , this very topic was discussed.  According to Lindsay, job seekers applying for several open positions in hopes of increasing their odds of getting their foot in the door at a company where they really want to work is not a good approach.  Rather than go on a resume-submitting frenzy a strategic approach, targeting a particular position is recommended. Do you want to be more strategic in your efforts to land the job at your dream company? Yes?

 Resume Tip

Don't Fudge Job Titles

Do you ever feel like you do more than your job title implies?  It is tempting to want to put an unofficial job title on your resume to align better to what you actually do at work, especially if it makes you the perfect fit for a job you are interested in; however, I caution you against the urge. Your resume is the first thing a prospective employer is going to receive from you. It serves as a first impression. It is much better to be honest and stay official then to embellish and potentially get caught in a lie.

Employers Investigate:
Reputable, prospective employers do their homework too.  They may call your references, reach out to your current employer, search social media as well as use other investigative tactics before hiring a candidate they are interested in. You do not want them to find a discrepancy that will put doubt in their mind about your trustworthiness.  Remember, you are not the only candidate applying so don't risk getting passed over for the next person because of a little embellishment.

Better Option:

Even if you can't control your past job titles or a current one that does not accurately fit, hope is not lost.  Read More

Encouragement

Ever Feel Defeated by the Challenges of Life?
Would a Source of Daily Encouragement Help?

If you answered YES to either of those questions, then please join us on Facebook where we post encouraging quotes, journal prompts and affirmations to keep you focused and moving forward in the right direction despite the things life throws at you. Truth be told, we all encounter times where negative thoughts pop into our heads. A bad day at work, a difficult co-worker, a health issue, a family challenge, the list goes on. Sometimes we just need a little help to combat those thoughts to keep us focused on the good and not the bad. Our Vision to Purpose page is dedicated to doing just that, lifting you up and keeping you optimistic because we want you to find joy no matter the trials of life. The above picture is a sample of a weekly Facebook cover. De-cluttering your life was the theme.  Below is a quote that was posted based on that theme. Hope to see you on Facebook!

FREE Resources to Help YOU Shine like the Star you ARE!

Have you ever wanted to use a video chatting tool, but did not want to pay a large fee for the service.  We have all heard of Skype, but what about Zoom?  Zoom is my go-to online meeting service that I find exceptionally reliable; it’s like Skype, only better. You can use it for client meetings, personal chats, online courses, and even to pipe in guest speakers for in-person events. Zoom can record all meetings; once the meeting ends, the resulting file is downloaded locally or stored in the cloud (or both). It seems to be nearly foolproof since participants can join on any device (including a phone), use video, or stick with audio only. Best of all Zoom has both free and paid plans. Click on Zoom below to be taken to their site. Have an issue? You can also type in the web address: https://zoom.us/
