November 18 is National Memory Screening Day

Memory screenings make sense for anyone concerned about memory loss or experiencing warning signs of dementia; whose family and friends have noticed changes in them; or who believe they are at risk due to a family history of Alzheimer’s disease or a related illness. Screenings also are appropriate for anyone who does not have a concern right now but who wants to see how their memory is now and for future comparisons.

The questions below might help you decide if you should be screened. If you answer “yes” to any of them, you might benefit from a memory screening:

Am I becoming more forgetful?
Do I have trouble concentrating?
Do I have difficulty performing familiar tasks?
Do I have trouble recalling words or names in conversation?
Do I sometimes forget where I am or where I am going?
Have family or friends told me that I am repeating questions or saying the same thing over and over again?
Am I misplacing things more often?
Have I become lost when walking or driving?
Have my family or friends noticed changes in my mood, behavior, personality, or desire to do things?

A memory screening is a simple and safe evaluation tool that checks memory and other thinking skills. It can indicate whether an additional check up by a qualified healthcare professional is needed.

November 14                 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.               Chilton-Clanton
November 21                 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.               Blount-Snead
November 22                 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. St. Clair-Steele

THE WALK TO REMEMBER AND END ALZHEIMER'S IS SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5TH!

M4A is presently seeking participants 55 years and older for their Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). The Title V program, funded by the US Department of Labor, offers part-time temporary on the job training to enable participants to transition into the workforce. Participants are paid $7.25 per hour and will spend twenty hours per week at their training site. Currently we are looking for participants interested in training for employment as transportation aides in Jefferson County. The Alabama Securities Commission Warns of Scams that Target the Faithful!

Affinity Fraud is an investment scam that preys upon members of identifiable groups, which include churches, the elderly, ethnic groups, and professional groups.

The con artists, who perform affinity fraud, commonly are a part of the group they are trying to scam. They will work hard to gain leadership positions or often get respected leaders to join them in the effort to sway more people to the fraudulent investment.

WAYS TO AVOID BECOMING A VICTIM OF AFFINITY FRAUD

Beware of investment opportunities which promise great returns to church or other group members quickly and in this lifetime.
Be skeptical of any investment that is not fully documented in writing.
Check out everything before you invest!
