Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama (ACA) is hosting 2 educational events next week:
ACA’s 5th Tuesday Luncheon, is January 29, 11:30 – 1. Our guest speaker will be elder law attorney, Lynn Campisi. Her passion is grounded in serving the legal needs of the elderly and the disabled. She helped create a network of attorneys sharing this passion when she served as founding chair of the Alabama Elder Law Section. A Certified Elder Law Attorney through the National Elder Law Foundation, she is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Academy of Special Needs Planners, Estate Planning Council of Birmingham, and also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama. Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama’s Jr. Board will host their 3rd annual Queso & Questions, Thursday, January 31st, 5:30 – 7:30, at Avondale Brewery, with a free taco bar. Our speaker is Kristine Lokken, PhD, with the Brain Health Institute. She is a functional neuropsychologist with a passion for helping people restore brain health. Her extensive background in clinical research, medical neuropsychology, and holistic wellness merged together when she founded the Brain Health Institute in Birmingham. She will present simple steps to prevent, stabilize and restore cognitive decline.

What’s the new Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period?
In 2019, a new Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period will run from January 1 – March 31 every year. If you’re enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, you’ll have a one-time opportunity to:
Switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan
Drop your Medicare Advantage plan and return to Original Medicare, Part A and Part B
Sign up for a stand-alone Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan (if you return to Original Medicare). Most Medicare Advantage plans include prescription drug coverage already. Usually you can’t enroll in a stand-alone Medicare Prescription Drug plan if you already have a Medicare Advantage plan, but there are some situations where you can.
