M4A wants to remind consumers of all ages at all stages to START WITH M4A! We are the first place to contact to get help, information, and resources. Our Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) Specialists are always here to help!

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office wins the Outstanding Community Service Award at the South Eastern Area Agency on Aging (SE4A) Conference!

M4A is so proud of the partnership with the Sheriff's Office! They were presented with this very honorable award among nine states in the south east region for their dedication and service of older adults across the M4A region. Lt. Cody Sumners accepted the award on behalf of the Shelby County Sheriff's Office at the SE4A conference.

THE M4A DEMENTIA FRIENDLY PRESENTATION IS A HIT AT THE SE4A CONFERENCE!

Maranda Johnson and Robyn James of our agency and Lt. Cody Sumners of the Shelby County Sheriff's Office gave a presentation on our Dementia Friendly Training Program for Law Enforcement and First Responders. There were several community leaders from nine of the southeastern states who attended the workshop and represented at the SE4A conference.

The information was very well received and M4A will be working with a few of the states to share our information and materials so they can replicate the training across their jurisdictions. It was a very successful conference!!

The Medicare Open Enrollment Period is approaching quickly. M4A's SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) is here to help you with your free plan comparison to ensure you have all the information you need to get the best coverage possible for 2019. We have several free open enrollment events scheduled in all five of our counties. To find a location near you, please visit our website at www.m4a.org.

Living Well Alabama is looking for Volunteers!

Living Well Alabama is M4A’s Chronic Disease Self-Management Program that teaches valuable skills needed in the day-to-day management of chronic conditions.

We are currently in need of volunteers in Blount, Chilton, and St. Clair counties. Volunteers will work with Positive Maturity to serve as Living Well Alabama Program Ambassadors.

LWA Program Ambassadors will conduct LWA outreach and serve as peer support for workshop participants by making reminder phone calls, assisting with health surveys, and conducting support groups.

Ambassadors will be given volunteer training, materials, and will be reimbursed mileage.

FIDGET ACTIVITY LAP BLANKET UPDATE

The Columbiana Senior Center has been working very hard making the holiday Alzheimer's Disease Fidget Activity Blankets. The Chelsea Community Center has donated the majority of the novelty items that will be sewn on each blanket.

M4A will be distributing the lap blankets to the clients with the greatest need to receive them. If you know someone who can benefit from receiving a lap blanket, please contact M4A at 205-670-5770.
