Upper Rockridge SECURITY ALERT!- FEB 1, 2017
The house at 6276 Acacia, that has been empty for months - was shockingly taken over by illegal occupants on 1/31. The Oakland Police were notified by the Sotheby's SF real estate agent, but they cannot evict them now without an eviction notice, since they were fraudulently able to get into the house and have utilities turned and claim occupancy. They claim to own the house, and are allegedly members of a group called Moorish Nation, that does not follow laws.   There is a post about this with a lot more information: FYI.  Chase Bank is the owner of record of that house currently.
a)  Our URNA SC3 security patrol has been notified and will be on the watch for illegal activity.
b)  You should also notify any private patrols you have contracted. Please be aware of your security and that of your house.
c)  If you witness any illegal or suspicious activity around the house, please call Oakland Police Emergency immediately to report!
d)  URNA is in touch with OPD, Dan Kalb, Alameda Cty DA, Sotheby's agents, and as of today, Feb 3, in contact with Chase Bank attorney filing for eviction.

1. By the NUMBERS: We've been working hard to improve participation in the URNA in order to expand the patrols and security of our area!  Here are some "Stats" from last 2 months.  CLICK HERE to explore Membership in URNA.

  • Grown Membership by 12 new members
  • Grown Newsletter Email list by 84 subscribers
  • Grown URNA Facebook Page Likes/Follows from 0/0 to 66/70
  • Grown URNA Twitter Followers from 0 to 9

2. WINTER MEMBERSHIP DRIVE: We've seen a good number of people sign up for newsletters, but we really need more URNA members to sustain/grow the patrols and cameras!     Village Market table: We plan to set up membership recruitment tables at Village Market later this month too!
New Volunteers are invited to help market URNA and make us all safer!

3. AREA CRIME  We are fortunate in Upper Rockridge to have less (statistically) than the College Ave corridor. Our terrain is harder to manage, and more houses have alarm systems. BUT, we still have more crime than the "good old days".  Our patrols help to deter criminals but they are only on duty at certain hours of the day. Check out the crime map from January: (URNA are outlined in Blue). CLICK on map or link below for interactive version. (Expand area to see how lucky we are...)

The best way to view this is interactively via the CrimeMapper link:
***FACTOID: THERE ARE OVER 1500 homes in URNA coverage area. Our patrols benefit ALL of them. We could add day and night patrols OR double our patrol cars if only 10% of you participate! We're working hard for you! Please take part in the collective safety of our neighborhood!

4.  See the NEW LOWER MEMBER RATES  below and JOIN URNA now!

WHAT TO DO if you see suspicious people or experience crime:

At the meeting with OPD, Cpt. Wingate made it clear that we should call in all incidents that happen in our area for the simple reason that OPD resources are assigned by need.
CRO:   We also have a "Community Resource Officer".  So, if you see a suspicious person you can call the CRO and for any more serious incidents, of course call the OPD.
CRO Area2: Kristine Jurens
Her OPD WORK EMAIL: (preferred)
Work Telephone: (510)507-6560
Area 2 CRO Sergeant: T. Martin
Tel: 510-238-2008
  • FOR EACH approx 12 new members we can expand patrol hours by ~ 10 hours!  -> That's an extra day or  evening shift!
  • FOR EACH 10-20 NEW MEMBERS we can pay for one license plate reader camera installation.
Please JOIN URNA so we can expand hours
Volunteers/Board Members: We are always looking for more volunteers, and someone to help with community education and outreach.  Please contact us if interested. You are also welcome to attend a board meeting at any time.  New Membership drive starts this month. Full board meeting in January.

New Membership Options:  Please forward this newsletter to neighbors and anyone who might be interested. Check our new website for the URNA Patrol Coverage Map and Membership info. Patrol hours will be sent separately to members...  THANK YOU.

We are excited to announce new rates for members!  The biggest obstacle to getting the most out of our patrol services is membership!  We NEED MORE OF OUR NEIGHBORS to participate. More members = more hours of patrol service = more safety for our area! We hope these rates will be attractive.

We know that some of our neighbors have their own alarm service patrols and some areas have cameras too. Remember that we ALL benefit from our service and the others. We now offer TWO MEMBERSHIP levels for URNA*:

FULL MEMBER:  $35/mo*

For full information about what features are included, please visit the website and see JOIN NOW!

**Rates are for new members and renewals after Dec 1.

Dear loyal existing URNA members: We of course appreciate it if you wait for your next renewal for the automatic membership rate decrease (and thanks for extra support!) or feel free contact us at to pro-rate your renewal date or receive a credit for the lower rate if desired. Thx

HOW TO EMAIL US:  We have created convenient aliases to contact URNA, as well as through the contact form on the website. Here they are: -- General Inquiries or Membership Info -- Billing Matters -- Join Newsletter -- To help membership drive -- vacation watch request (Full members only)
