NEWSFLASH!
Upper Rockridge SECURITY ALERT!- FEB 1, 2017
The house at 6276 Acacia, that has been empty for months - was shockingly taken over by illegal occupants on 1/31. The Oakland Police were notified by the Sotheby's SF real estate agent, but they cannot evict them now without an eviction notice, since they were fraudulently able to get into the house and have utilities turned and claim occupancy. They claim to own the house, and are allegedly members of a group called Moorish Nation, that does not follow laws. There is a NextDoor.com post about this with a lot more information: FYI. Chase Bank is the owner of record of that house currently.
NOTES:
a) Our URNA SC3 security patrol has been notified and will be on the watch for illegal activity.
b) You should also notify any private patrols you have contracted. Please be aware of your security and that of your house.
c) If you witness any illegal or suspicious activity around the house, please call Oakland Police Emergency immediately to report!
d) URNA is in touch with OPD, Dan Kalb, Alameda Cty DA, Sotheby's agents, and as of today, Feb 3, in contact with Chase Bank attorney filing for eviction.

2. WINTER MEMBERSHIP DRIVE: We've seen a good number of people sign up for newsletters, but we really need more URNA members to sustain/grow the patrols and cameras! Village Market table: We plan to set up membership recruitment tables at Village Market later this month too!
New Volunteers are invited to help market URNA and make us all safer!
3. AREA CRIME We are fortunate in Upper Rockridge to have less (statistically) than the College Ave corridor. Our terrain is harder to manage, and more houses have alarm systems. BUT, we still have more crime than the "good old days". Our patrols help to deter criminals but they are only on duty at certain hours of the day. Check out the crime map from January: (URNA are outlined in Blue). CLICK on map or link below for interactive version. (Expand area to see how lucky we are...)

The best way to view this is interactively via the CrimeMapper link: http://www.crimemapping.com/Share/URNA
***FACTOID: THERE ARE OVER 1500 homes in URNA coverage area. Our patrols benefit ALL of them. We could add day and night patrols OR double our patrol cars if only 10% of you participate! We're working hard for you! Please take part in the collective safety of our neighborhood!
